Destination wedding locations usually tell you exactly what you need to do in order for the marriage to be recognized in your country of origin. The JOP seems like an unnecessary stressor right before your wedding.

uuuf! get legally married with the justice of the peace in the united states... im an american wife of an argentine citizen and we had to do everything in argentina.. which could sometimes be frustrating or time consuming. although im sure these "destination wedding packges" they offer in jamacia or mexico can make the legal end rather painless, if youre organizing it yourself youre much better off in your home country where youre on familiar territory. (things to consider: medical tests, witnesses, etc.) just trust me, legal processes in other countries can be a headache, especially if one of you does not speak the language. (in the case of a mexican wedding.)
so this is my best idea:
get married by the justice of the peace in your home state, and get all that over with. then pack your bags to your beautiful destination and just have a good time with your family, enjoying the true union of your marriage without worrying about the legal stuff.. thats what i wish i could have done!
congratulations, and best of luck.

This is exactly what I am doing. We are getting married in the Dominican Republic and plan on getting married civilly here first. The wedding package ends up being cheaper b/c you don't need to the judge and transfer of wedding document fees. And you can have a gorgeous symbolic ceremony! We are taking our pastor down to give us his blessing.
Good luck!

When you get married in another country (especially if you do it at a resort - which I assume is your plan) they will tell you everything you need to do in your home country in order for it to be legal. It's no more difficult than getting papers in order at home and many, many people do it. There's no reason to have a JP wedding prior to your destination wedding.

It relies upon on the regulations interior the community area the place the marriage will ensue. interior the U. S. and quite a few different of the Caribbean you could particularly lots get married anyplace you opt for. In Europe that's particularly different. In Italy you could in simple terms marry in a Catholic church, a Jewish synagogue, or a registrars workplace, so in case you wanted to marry on a coastline you're able to need a separate criminal ceremony someplace else.

Just research the celebrant you use overseas and make sure that they are properly qualified. It usually isnt a problem. And if you find out later it wast valid just take a trip to vegas and do it again!! (An excuse to have a vacation! hehe)

You just have ONE ceremony, and decide where to do it. You can always honeymoon somewhere you choose.
