I just bought the last model HP they had on display for a good price, partly because it didnt come with a mouse/keyboard, or any cds and such (Just the Desktop). So I brought it home last night and started reformatting it with another windows xp cd from a previous system. It worked out well I suppose except now I dont have any sound and cant seem to install the sound drivers that are on there already. Do I need to contact HP for this or is it something easy that Im not figuring out?

I have a Seagate 300 Gb drive which I am considering setting up in a mirrored RAID array. Do I need a drive of the same capacity or can I get away with a smaller drive as long as I don't exceed the capacity of the smaller drive?

I have 512Mb and am considering adding another 512Mb, but I was talking to a friend who has 1024Mb on his equipment, and using Task Manager we compared both and found out his machine was not using the extra memory (although we were running MS Messenger, using webcam and he had some other windows opened. Do you have to set XP so that it uses the extra memory?

i have the following system configuration:
AGP PCI IMB USB i2c/SMBus model MS6570 AGP
AMD ATHLON XP
NVIDEA 42302e31 bios
NVIDEA NFORCE MCP networking controller
i am trying to find a SMBus controller driver.
anyone know what i am looking for? is it the above mentioned AGP PCI that i'm looking for the driver for?
need to install a driver for the smbus controller.
i have a sound blaster card and just found the drivers for it, but i still need the smbus controller driver.
my c-media ac97 audio device and via ac97 audio controller have drivers installed but cannot start. i only lack the bus controller drivers and i should get full sound working again. anyone know the source for these drivers that will do an auto install as i can't download to a cd and going to the desktop won't work.

I have been troubleshooting this for days. I have connected my tape deck directly to my soundcard correctly. I purchased a good audio editing software (roxio). The sound that comes from my computer when playing the tape sounds great, but after recording, the playback quality is poor. Sounds low and more like mono than stereo. I have adjusted everything I can think of on my volume controls. Could it be my soundcard? I have a new HP pavillion a1640n desktop. I would think the soundcard could handle this analog to digital process fine.
I have been doing a lot of research about this. It sems many people are converting their CDs and LPs with no problem as long as you have the software to do it. I don't know why it's not working for me. I have used my DAZZLE device to record audio through my video editing software and it actually sounds great! But I can't convert to MP3 nor seperate the tracks with the video software. Why does my soundcard work fine doing it that way? Please help! thanks!

16X DVD Dual layer burner
DVD drive
Floppy disk drive

Programs that come with it is McAfee virus scan, Microsoft Office 2003, Nero 7.0.

i have an older Dell, and the hard drive is filled with useless junk.I am unable to delete a lot of it for various reasons, and I just want to start over. also, it musta come with windows ME, but xp is installed. I have all the original cd's that came with the computer to reinstall drivers and the windows ME. Do i just reformat the hard drive, and restart with the operating system disk in the cd drive? and will i have to put the original video card back in, instead of the Nvidia that i installed last year? whatever you know about it will help

The fans all start to spin but barely complete 2 rotations before they stop. If I hit the start switch repeatedly it does the same thing. I have moved the power on jumpers and the reset jumpers and even tried a different swith all with the same results. I know this is something simple I just don't have any experience with new motherboards.

I want to build my own computer for the 1st time, Ihave done a lot of changes to my old desktop, I have changed the HDD, cdrom, RAM, everthing but the motherboard and processor.. i feel I dont have enough understanding about the motherboard settings.
If I have to build my computer, is it hard to do the motherboard settings as well as the processor? I know how to attach the bits and pieces of it but I lack understanding on the bios settings and/or any switches on the motherboard itself.... is it hard? can you recommend a website or video explaining this?
