i bought a new atx case today and tried to transfer my old components to it. i connected everything (it seemed) but after switching it on it gets stuck at the "tab for post bios" motherboard screen. anyone know how to fis this?

Hey Dude,
I would make sure first that you do not have any "extra" metal posts sticking up from the case, shorting out the motherboard. VERY Common for the do-it-yourself project.
The next thing I would do is pull out everything again and stick it back into your old computer.....UGH! I know. But it will tell you if you are chasing your tail. Sometimes, many times, things work just fine in the old box. You take it out, rattle it around, and suddenly it doesn't work anymore. Hard drives can be VERY finiky like that. Even moving it from horizontal to vertical can do it.
Your error is a bit strange though. Try the short thing. And most of all, make sure you have the power on the motherboard on correctly. Both plugs!

Not without knowing all of the components you used. You'll need to check your motherboard manual.
"Tab for post BIOS" is not a recognised term.

check to make sure everything is seated properly. then restart.
Did you use protection???? ESD that is. (electrostatic discharge) can kill a cpu or RAM pronto!
Have you push the tab bar when it says "tab for post bios"? If you can get to bios setup choose "optimal settings" and then save and exit bios.
Did you add anything new?

Since your question is generic, I'll give you a generic response:
Disconnect everything, and one by one, connect a component to the motherboard and turn it on. (i.e. Motherboard and hard drive only.... works... now add the CD-ROM... works.... now add the RAM....failed).
Try it out, it worked for me.

Check to see that your RAM is correctly inserted. If that isn't it, check to see if your hard drive power is attached. Then check to see if your hard drive ribbon cable is plugged in correctly. I assume you have power to the motherboard, but check that connection also.
