the harddrive. How do I delete the info on the computer that I wish remains private? I want to leave the basics on the computer. Please help me help these kids.

Hello Dudette,
The best and simplest thing I can say to you is to reinstall the Operating System or do a complete system restore. This still would not be 100% but it would be better than just removing things.
Grab your OS cd, boot to it, start all over.

it all depends on how personal the info is because when you delete data is not really erased until you write something else on top of it if you have such as bank acc #s,ssi # credit card #s and things like that you would be taking a risk
