Yo! I must admit that I am quite surprised with the answer of Khoj level2 and that of Anil level3!!!

To infer that a branded PC is better than an assembled computer (provided that you recieve good counselling and that the assembly is done by a qualified person) is simply NONSENSE!!!

Let me back my point- when you assemble your own PC, you make one "tailor-made", that is you will have a balanced configuration.
In fact when people seek my advice before buying their PC I always tell them the following: A PC is like many people in a row, tied to each other, trying to run. to have maximum efficiency, it would be better to have all the participants slim or all of them fat so that NO ONE PENALISES THE OTHER! A computer is very simlar. If you have a weak or slow processor, it will be needless to have a very good Graphics card...hope I've made it clear....

When you buy a branded one, the latter may sometime be equipped too much for you(therefore too expensive) or under-equipped. Also, when you buy a branded computer, generally their processors are OEM versions. OEM versions are cheaper than BOX version ones (like the ones you buy in shops in a box). Besides a BOX version processor comes with a 3-year warranty while an OEM comes with only one year. I hope that you can judge the OEM processors! In fact brand names computers use OEM processors for economical reasons.

So the answer to your first question is quite obvious from the above well detailed explanations- an assembled PC s better than the branded ones.

Now, in your case, I'll give you a list of hardware which I will recommend you:

motherboard ASUS M2N4-SLI
CPU AMD ATHLON64 X2 at a clock speed of about at least 2.4GHz
graphic card LEADTEK 6800GT
hard drive WESTERN DIGITAL RAPTOR SERIES (the capacity is up to you to decide but I will recommend 120GB)

the other parts are less important, so its up to you to decide according to your budget

BEFORE ENDING LET ME REMIND YOU OF SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT- USE A UPS AS YOU WILL BE RUNNING A VERY COSTLY PC.

I just hope that I was helpful to you.... :>

It's simple buy any PC, but remeber to take the configuration for Windows vista, I mean to say make it Windows Vista Premium Ready, so it will work long lasting for you.
