It never fails. It doesn't happen right away, but whenever i am using any of front panel USB ports my desktop crashes within 5 minutes or so. Sometimes its just causes my USB mouse to stop working. Sometimes the whole computer freezes up. I usually just use the USB ports for my flash drive.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2.

Another thing that happens that might be related is that when i plug in headphones to the headphone jack, me speakers turn off (which they should). The problem is they never turn back on when I take out the headphones. I have to leave the headphones halfway in for the speakers to work.

How can i find out that if the sound card is missing, or it is a software problem. Also the little speaker icon is absent.

Trying to locate a good Motherboard for a desktop (Micro ATX) which can last with me at least 3-4 years from now. I know the technology is so fast. I'm looking for something with a reasonable price ($120-150 CDN) with good performance and features (Make & Model). Is anyone who can help out there? Thank you.

all of the fans spin, lights go on, but it the hdd only spins up if the ide cable is NOT plugged to the Motherboard, RAM works in other computer, NO POST, NO BEEPS, No Picture

replaced mobo/cpu, old one had same prob, brand new power supply tests fine, tried new video card and onboard one, no success.
hdd tests fine in other computer.

Running dual drives, DVD-ROM and a DVD-RW. Burned about 12 DVDs in a row, put one back in to verify the contents, and neither drive would show up in explorer. After reboot, drives are no longer recognized in device manager. Both drives function fine from dos and in the bios and throughout the entire boot sequence. Once windows is loaded, however, nothing will function. If I insert an audio CD, they will play these directly through the board. I have verified all connections. ...All of which leads me to believe this is clearly a software, and not a hardware issue. I have rolled back and replaced all drivers, verified all registry entries, and frankly, I'm baffled.

I am receiving the following messages in device manager:
Two of these for the drives:
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
And this for the SM Bus Controller:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

any ideas short of cutting my losses and reinstalling XP?

I got a webcam and I get an error message when I plug it in. It says I don't have enough drive memory (but I know I do) and that I should change the BIOS memory settings to turn off cacheing.

First off, whats the biggest difference between the two?

Which will run faster for gaming, and video/audio editing?

Is there a difference between the front side buses?
If there is no difference between Intel and AMD, why does amd have 2000 and Intel has 1333? From what I've found...

Which is most reliable? I know AMD usually runs hotter, but, is it better?

Does the processor matter when getting games, as in, Intel vs Amd? Or do I just have to have higher then posted? (Cause on games it says Intel Pentium as the processor, I rarely see AMD on the games I get...)

Which is better?
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz (Dual Core) 1066FSB
or
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ Dual Core (2000FSB) 64bit CPU

Cause I can get either for about the same price.

today i bought a P4 3.0Ghz and the guy from the store installed it properly. but when i turn on the pc it appears like a 1.5Ghz and it defintly seems very slow(although i've just 512MB RAM).
when i go to the properties on my computer it show me this: Pentium 4 3.00Ghz
1.51Ghz 512 MB RAM
i think i've got to go to the BIOS to upgrade.
tks

I know all the parts that I have to buy and how to install them, I'm studying telecomunications!. Anyways, I want to build a nice fast but not expensive computer, something that runs great, maybe not for gaming, but regular browsing and e-mail.

Could someone explain the differences to me? Are either one suffiencent for a non-gamer? All I know is that the intel duo is more expensive, but not by that much. Thanks!
