If you are using Windows Xp you can use the restore feature that is built in.

1.Log on to Windows as Administrator.
2.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3.On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
4.On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system checkpoint in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next. A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
5.On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
6.Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page appears.
7.Click OK.

If your computer manufacturer gave you a disc you can insert that and reboot the computer, but this, in most cases, will wipe your hard drive.

By the way, I am 63, and it is one of the easiest programs to actually use. Read all the other answers and pick one that is easiest to use. But I have saved myself from disaster a number of times by doing a System Restore. It does a beautiful job and makes all the scary things go away again. It doesn't intimidate you like other Windows stuff does. No nasty or "you damned fool" messages to contend with. When you have used it, you will feel so good about yourself because all you have to do after you click "Go for it" is to sit back and watch it heal itself. It is a little bit like watching the sun come out again or a toothache stop suddenly. You will be absolutely delighted with the results. I guarantee it. Remember I mentioned this, too. Now, get going. Other than using your Defragmenter, it is one of the happiest items on your computer besides Yahoo! Answers, of course...
