i have a media center pc, connected to a set-top box (receiver) using s-video cable. there's no sound when playing live tv or recorded tv. but the rest like music, etc., the sound plays. can you help me guys on these?

S-video only carries the video signal, not audio.

You will need a seperate cable to go from the audio out on your reciever to your audiocard line in or stereo, or whatever you are using for audio.

Sounds like you have the video signal coming in just fine, but do you have the audio connected?

you say music plays fine, but im guessing if you havent sent the audio FROM the TV/reciever, then youre not going to be getting any sound. youll need to go red and white out, to either red and white or red or even just the white in on the computers end.

Mack D is correct. S-Video is just that - video. It does not carry the audio. You need connect an audio line form the audio of the TV into the "in line" or "microphone" jack on your PC.
