Hi,

There are a few ways to check that out.
Lets see if your pc even has a sound card installed.
Please check the back of your pc case if there are inputs for speakers. (they are small circles). If you have already connected your speakers to your pc than we will see if windows is recognizing it.
If you are using Windows XP follow these steps to see if your sound card is working etc.
1.Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices (double click on this)
2. Now while in Sounds and Audio Devices > click on the Audio Tab now there should be a sound card name below Sound Playback Default device.

If you can see that you do have a sound card you might have the sound muted. Now while still in the Sounds and Audio Devices click on the Volume tab and now if mute is checkmarked please remove the checkmark and also you might need to raise the volume.

I hope this helps. If you have anymore questions just let me know.

1. go to Control Panel -> Sounds.

2. if you have a sound card you will see it here. if yes just mark the check box asking whether to show the volume icon on taskbar

3. if you do not find the sound card in the above place,
right click on the My computer icon. select 'Properties'. go to Device Manager. Here in the devices, you can check if you have a sound card (under sound adapter) or not or just that the drivers are missing.
if the drivers are missing, you will see an exclamation mark against the sound card icon. double click on this and select update/install driver. choose the automatic option, make sure you r connected to the net. it will download and install the driver automatically.

hope this helps.. cheers!!

You need to install the sound card if it is not installed or something wrong with it. To check in WinXP you can goto
Start --> Control Panel --> System
Now click on the hardware tab and then on device manager.

Under that tab if you see a yellow exclamation mark next to the audio devices you know that they havent been installed. So,get hold of the CD and install them right away...
