If it is a Dell or Emachine, then the power supply is most likely fried, or it sounds like a short in the wire, if you are curious whether or not it is a short, you can follow the wire from the power button to its location on the motherboard, pull it out and touch both pins with a screwdriver, this should turn on the computer, I hope this solves your problem!!

Might be what is called a "cold solder".... Try opening the case and confirming that all the cards are set properly and not a bit wedged out. Then confirm that all the power connections and data ribbons are all snugly in there. Is called "cold solder", due to the fact that some older PCs have loose connections that only get set correctly if warmed up. In the old days, it was actual wiring that was not soldered correctly. Nowadays it is due to components becoming dislodged. Cold PC circuits do not conduct electricity as well as warm ones. If that all fails, then it is due to the power supply failure. These are easily replaceable. WOO!....
