Hi,
I am looking for a *very basic* branded PC for my parents, to be used mostly for browsing and voice chats. We would also like good after sales service. (Although assembled PCs offer better value, I am NOT interested in them)

Few questions in this regard
1. How much does a basic branded PC typically cost?
2. Any particular brand/model you can recommend?
3. Any promotions that you are aware of?
4. Anything else I should consider.

Thanks in advance. You guys rock!

I built this pc a few years ago. It has an atx form factor board originally from Abit with an sis chipset and 478 processor slot. Once I replace the mobo, do I have to replace the power supply? Does the new mobo come with a processor or do I have to get that seperately? The computer will be used for non-gaming purposes, i.e. just regular surfing, emailing, etc.

If you need any more details, let me know.

My computer sometimes recognizes my DVD drive and sometimes does not. When it does recognize it it works perfectly. I believe I read that Windows XP had trouble recognizing drives if there were more than six: I have eight. Any help would be appreciated!

I am using windows xp. everything stops; mouse won't move etc, however, if I am watching a show, after the 10 secs, it speeds up (sound included) until it has "caught up" After the "hang" it goes back to normal until it does it again. it is very annoying. I have the latest version of Norton Internet Security, so I don't think I have any kind of virus.

Hey. I'm looking for a computrer that's about between $500-$1200 dollars. I need a lot of memory, so i can edit movies and stuff. That'd be primarily what it'd be used for. (Besides the obvious stuff like internet and word and junk). Preferably a Microsoft modle. Any suggestions?

When I start writing to a CD-RW or adding data to it, my computer power supply shuts off, AND erases any/all data that was on the CD-RW? Lost a lot of data and photos on disk, has happened several times; I did not know the data already on the CD-RW would be erased? I have a Sony DVD Dual/Double layer drive, 80 GB hard drive with 250 GB 2nd hard drive, i.e., lots of backup. I have run all diagnostics, can't figure it out, could it be a virus??

My computer won't shut down. Have tried everything, ending task, control alt delete etc. nothing works. Have resorted to switching off the power button. However, when I switch it on again it is still frozen. The mouse moves around but when I click on anything it nothing happens. What can I do. Please tell me I haven't lost everything.

I just built a new pc, and it works fine but eventually freezes every time I use it. All the parts are listed below. The only problem I can think of is that the power source is only 500watts.
AMD 64X2 4800+
Abit KN9 SLi motherboard
4 PNY DDR2 512mb memory sticks
200gb maxtor sata hard drive
nvidia geforce 7300gt (x2)
Aspire 500watt dual fan power supply

any help or suggestions would be appreciated

I have a dual boot system: Win2K Pro and Win2k server. This is on the pc I built. It won't go past the memory check and the Hard drive check. I can't even get into safe mode or boot from a floppy. I noticed that the h/d light stays on solid when usually it flickers some. I've tried unplugging everything except the monitor and it still does not boot. What else can I try?

I'm getting terrible play back (if they playback at all) from any kind of videos off the internet. I'm a total techno dweeb when it comes to this sort of thing so I have a hard time even describing what the problem is. A video typically will play for 3 to 4 seconds then freeze for several seconds or more, play for another second or so, and freeze up again, and so on. And for what ever it may be worth I'm running windows xp pro on a Dell pc w/933mhz processor, 512m and 40g HD

I recently bought a speaker set that requires 5 RCA inputs, right front, left front, center, left rear, right rear. I was wondering how I would connect my computer to these speakers with that single 3.5mm output. Does anyone know how I would go about doing that?

I have a PC that my boyfriend built for me. My Father has a CB that he hasn't been using. When he turned on the CB there was no static, but when I turned on the PC there was a ton of static. WHat do you think could be the cause of this?
My Father has a theory that it's the blue LCD lights I have on the fans and power supply. Do you think this could be the problem??
