Hey. I'm looking for a computrer that's about between $500-$1200 dollars. I need a lot of memory, so i can edit movies and stuff. That'd be primarily what it'd be used for. (Besides the obvious stuff like internet and word and junk). Preferably a Microsoft modle. Any suggestions?

Every store and their dog has a sale on right now for the holidays, so the choices are endless. Besides lots of memory, you might want to splurge on a video upgrade and maybe a nice LCD monitor. It won't be hard to spend all your money.

Go to www.govconnection.com and look at various vendor models. I found part #7153940 which is a Thinkcenter that should suit your needs.

Sort by price lowest to highest. Use this as a starting point. RAM is not the only thing you should pay attention to, get a video adapter with at least 128MB of video memory.

Don't forget the video editing software also. Try www.cyberlink.com

You must be specific about Computer... If it's a LAPTOP very hard to get a good one for $1200

Desktop -> Buy your own parts and build them. I recommend you go to BestBuy.com

1- Motherboard AMD Athlon Combo comes with the CPU so it's cheaper $200-300
2 - DRAM 2048MB = 2GB Memory (WAY THAN Enough) about 150-200$
3 - DVD DUAL BURNER - $44-55
4 - Power Supply - Case $50 (with 3 FANS so it will keep your pc cool and wont slow down/overheat etc)
5 - HARDDRIVEs are cheap these days 80$ - 160GB HD
6 - ATI 512MB AGP 8x its about 80-110$

About 650$ without monitor.
Buy also Flat Screen 19" for 220 and you're GOOD TO GO

Good Luck

I took a class on transferring VHS to DVD. It also involved using "Pinnacle" video editing software. The MINIMUM requirements for a computer that you'll need for video editing is: 2.0GHz processor, 1GB of memory, a large hard drive, a video capture device, and at least a 256MB video card. One hour of video will take up 1GB of hard drive space. You'll have to store videos on the hard drive while your editing them. While transferring VHS to DVD you can't use the computer for anything else. Something like this:
