No it's not bad to not shut your computer off. Many people actually leave theirs on all the time because they believe that it is good for them. There has been some debate on which is better, leaving it running or shutting it off. The most wear on your computer parts happen when you start it up, when your drives start spinning and have to build up speed from a dead stop. Thats why most hardware problems happen when you are starting up. "I don't know what happened, it was fine last night when I shut it off, and this morning it just won't work".

The general consensus has been to simply leave the computer running all day and shut it off when you go to bed at night. Of course if you want to leave it running, no, it's not really any harder on it than shutting it off, it's just consuming more power. But hey, if you are going to have your computer up 24/7, you could always fold. http://folding.stanford.edu/

No, it will not harm anything hardware wise, although I would be very surprised if Windows XP stayed up that long without reboot.

True, fan will be running continuously, but the bearings used in today's fan are very stable, it will probably last just fine. Dust accumulation will not be a problem unless your house is particularly dusty.

I have mine on 24x7 with periodic reboots for crash recovery and software installations/removals. Over the last 15 years with several computers, failures I had were never usage related.

Many of the server class machines stay on 24*7*365 and fans used on those machines aren't made any different from home computers in most cases.

No, it won't harm something hardware smart, even with the undeniable fact that i may well be very shocked if domicile windows XP stayed up that long devoid of reboot. real, fan would be working continually, however the bearings used in in the present day's fan are very stable, it is going to probable final only high quality. airborne dirt and mud accumulation is only no longer a situation till your place is very dusty. I actual have mine on 24x7 with periodic reboots for crash restoration and alertness installations/removals. over the final 15 years with various computers, mess ups I had have been in no way utilization proper. lots of the server classification machines survive 24*7*365 and followers used on those machines are not made any diverse from domicile computers in maximum situations.

Really the only thing that is bad, that it is consuming power unless you use energy saving features of windows that turns componets of your computer down or off, which is a good thing. Many folk leave their computers on and allow maintenance functions to run like diskeeper's defragmentation, etc to keep their computer healthy. As well some people use their computers as hosts or servers for files and information. Most computers are built for 24 hour use, as long as you have proper cooling and venting, etc. However you do lower the componets life span.

If you regularly check your PC for dust and things and have a good cooling systems and 2/3 fans there is no reason not to keep your computer on.
Although Windows would benefit from a restart (to dump the stuff in RAM) and to cool down the boards the fans don't reach, other than that there is nothing wrong with keeping it on, many people do it.

Your computer will be thankful for a restart every so often. With Windows I really would advise turning it off every night.
Plus - you're wasting a lot of power there buddy.

Hope that helps

No, it's not bad at all. My machine is rarely shut down and PCs in offices can sometimes run for years on end without being shutdown at all.
