when i start my Pc the icons on the desktop dont appear for almost 2-3 minutes earlier it didn't used to be

It sounds like you have too many startup programs. When you get a lot of programs that initiate on startup, you're computer will boot slower. Run an antivirus and antispyware scan first. Then, consider changing some program options so they don't start when you reboot. To check what is initiated at startup, click Start>Run type "msconfig" (without quotes) and hit Enter. Click the Startup tab and if there are more than 20 startup programs then that's your problem. Get back to me for fixing.

Both Windows Xp SP2 and Zone Alarm install additional services that your computer may not have enough RAM to sustain its former performance. Right-click on My Computer and choose properties from the menu. It will take a minute or so for your Processor speed and amount of installed RAM to appear. You should be at 512MB minimum. Anything lower and you probably need to upgrade your computer RAM.
