My son (2 yrs.) won't swallow certain foods, such as fruit, vegetables, and some meat. He'll chew it up and then spit it out. I don't think he dislikes the food/flavor because he'll continue to put that food in his mouth (rather than spitting it out and not continuing to eat it).
He's been doing it for a while--since he's been eating table foods. For a while, I thought it was just a phase and he'd grow out of it. However, it has been about a year. I try to discourage the behavior, by telling him to swallow his food. I don't want to be too harsh, though, because I am afraid it will influence him not to eat fruits/veggies at all.
Does this sound normal? Have you had this experience? What should I do?
