If his fever was so high that he was hallucinating, you should have him seen by a doctor.

Scary dreams are as real to little ones as they are to us. The only difference is that when we wake up, we know they ere just a dream. Fever can sometimes bring nightmares and so can other things. Nightmares are normal and are part of life, you are going to have to teach him how to get through them. This time, let it go. Help him deal with it in the moment. Help him see that it wasn't real. Help him explore the room/house and see that there are no snakes etc. It will be easier to keep the nightmare from coming back if he can see it was just a dream.

Welcome to the night terrors. Children usually go through this areound 3 and 4 years old. It doesn't matter whether or not they watch t.v or scary movies. It's their imagination growing. This is just a phase that he will eventually grow out of. When it happens, just comfort him and let him know that he is safe. Perhaps give him a night light or let him sleep with a flash light or a special stuffed animal.

sounds like he had a night terror, they are very scary for kids and they can be scared of many things.
best thing is to hold them, turn on a hallway light give a favorite toy for them to sleep with help them get settled down again, with my daughter who is also 3 she dreams there are monsters in her room (we have loud apartment neighbors who wake her up with all the noise)
and we tell the monsters to go away.
I am glad you found he had a fever, but normally they dont need a reason, if he has to many you may want to talk to his dr, especially if bedwetting follows.

My daughter is the same age and she does the same thing from time to time except she always dreams about alligators for some reason.

I usually just go to her and tell her there are no alligators in our house and there's no way they can hurt her and that usually works fine for her.

nightmares happen... just comfort him and let him know that snakes are more afraid of him than he is of them.....
