You should DEFINANTLY take your son to the hospital. I dated a guy with ADHD and he always would forget the inportant things that he had to do and would just worry about things that were not important and kept his interest and if he would do something for me , he would make sure it benifited him too. He was hyper about everything, he would not clam down, and get mad about everything when it would not go his was. When he was younger he was on redilin, PLEASE dont put let doctors perscribe your son this because down the road it will affect negeativly as he gets older.

What stands out to me is that he won't look you in the eye. Does he make conversation? Is his language perfect, like he is repeating what he has heard or does he make mistakes that tell you he is trying out sentences and stuff. ADHD symptoms can be other things and the diagnosis is often made before exploring what else it could be. First check that he is not chronically sleep-deprived. Kids sometimes get in the habit of wakin up to play in the night and end up missing too much sleep this way. Make sure he is getting enough sleep. Is he prone to emotional outbursts that are melodramatic (beyond normal toddler/preschooler outbursts, is even the littlest no a personal slight and he will never survive it)? If he is really emotional, that is another symptom. Is he much too independent? Thi maybe a symptom too. I would talk with the doctor again or see another, if you feel it needs to be addressed, then it does. Don't take no for an answer at the doctor's office. I would be wary of the ADHD diagnosis, it really messes with a kid's life. Make sure they screen him for Autism too.

My son is 4 and I am having the same problems! I have taken him to doctor after doctor and it just seems like they are not listening to me! It is so frustrating and I am at my wits end with him. My son is MEAN! He is very hyper and just seems like he is full of rage. My thinking is he is only 4 what can be so bad that he is so angry with the world? We love on him constantly and try to correct it, in fact if there is a parenting technique out there I am sure I have gave it a go, but NOTHING works!!!! I was just told recently there was a natural supplement that is safe for young children and I am trying desperately to find out what it is. I can totally relate to the insane! I have told my husband that one day I am just gonna go check myself in to the mental ward!

EDIT: After countless hours of searching I found a homeopathic medicine for my son. It is called Calms Forte 4 kids by Hyland's. www.hylands.com It is designed for sleep, however I have been giving my son 1/2 of the reccomended dose and far less frequently.(It says to give 2 pills every 15 minutes for 8 rounds followed by 2 every four hours...I have been giving 1 pill about every hour) I am proud to report, there is a tremendous difference in his behavior!! I finally have a happy child! I have been watching him all day to see if anything is not quite right and so far so great!! I also asked him if he felt OK and if he was tired and he said he felt good and was not tired (and by the way he is playing I would have to say he isn't!!)
I have finally had a peaceful day in my home!
I hope you find something that will let your child be happy!

Tell the doctors about the not meeting your eyes. I'm with the other poster does he speak? A friend of mine has a mild form of autism and they way his parents figured it out was because he wouldn't meet anyone's eyes and hated being touched. Another friend with yet another form of autism wouldn't talk and couldn't pay attention to anything. It may not be ADHD but it could be a different type of developmental issue. Take him to a pediatric psychologist or just your regular pediatrician but keep a journal of everything that concerns you down to the minute so you can show the doctors just how prevalent these behaviors are.

i believe that the vast majority of children being treated (medicated) for ADHD are mis-diagnosed. try some dietary changes before you resort to drastic measures.
eliminate sugar, caffeine, artificial anything (dyes, colorings, flavors, etc.) and make sure that your child's diet contains the essential fatty acids, and essential oils necessary for proper brain function and development.
go to your local health food store, they can help you with the research and the dietary needs.
please don't let them put your child on Ritalin. he'll just go from one extreme to the other. he may not be hyper any more, but he won't be engaged either.
good luck, and good health to you both
