It doesn't matter if I am singing it, my husband, or if she hears it on a lullaby music cd. She immediately starts crying, tears rolling down her face and it takes a few minutes to calm her down. It's just really weird! Has anyone else seen where a child is really sensitive to a particular song? What could be the reasons for this?

It's actually an indication that she is progressing well and is realizing that certain events occur in the futue based on current events. She is simply associating that song with the likelihood of an event happening soon that she doesn't want to occur such as going to bed. Ever since our son was first born, my wife would always sing bah bah blacksheep to our son while rocking him to sleep....now that he's 18 months old everytime he hears the song he runs away from his mom saying "no". Probably best not to sing or play it right before going to bed or putting her down for a nap or any other event that she doesn't like to do....but when she does hear it again explain to her that it's nothing to worry about...she'll eventually realize that it's not necessarily associated with the particular event she's currently associating it with.

My daughter used to be the same way with any doll that talked or made noise. (it was quite amusing one Christmas we got her all 4 of the Wiggles Dolls that talked and she LOVED the Wiggles. She opened the first one and did not like it and then she had 3 more to open and she did not like any of them. The video is funny because she gets more animated with the I DO NOT LIKE THIS) I have no idea what the reason for this is. She still would rather play with dolls that do not talk but she will tolerate them now if someone buys one for her. She also used to do the same thing with the Teletubbies she would cry hysterically if she would see them on the TV. I had to make sure we would turn the channel b4 they came on.

I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant and sing that song to my baby all the time! I hope I haven't been making him suffer in utero. But perhaps your daughter just doesn't like that song or the word mockingbird just scares her??? I'm not really sure. The best thing to do is switch to another lullaby!

How loud is it? Maybe it's not the song but maybe her ears are sensitive to noise. If it is the song maybe she just doesn't like it so you should stop singing it to her. When do you play the song? I'm assuming that you play it when she has to go to bed. That's why she doesn't like it she associates it with sleeping and kids that age hate to sleep.

Yes, I always do have that feeling when I find something way too funny. But I always fail at holding it in. Usually I just burst out laughing, and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy, but it's their problem if they don't find things as funny as I do. It's their loss.

That is weird. I admit, I haven't sung that song for my 15mo. daughter. Certain things do tend to scare certain children. There's a children's program that comes on TV that my daughter climbs up in my lap and tries to hide in my shoulder! I just couldn't believe that.

Maybe she just hates the song as well. :) I'd try for something different. Good luck!

I think I know the answer. You sing it to her when she is ready for bed,or a nap. A lot of children cry because they don't want to go to bed,or lay down for a nap and she associates that song with that.

Okay, this is another one of those you are gonna think I'm crazy, but....it could be it is tied to another lifetime. I know it sounds nuts, but there are things that affect everyone. It could be something you've never experienced before, that you remember. Any way, another thing could be just the way the song sounds upsets her. I'm mom to 3 and have found things my children have never experienced with me in their lifetime, that upset them greatly.
