I am concerned about my children's step sister and her development for her age. She only says about three words (mama, baby, bye-bye) and most of the time doesn't use those to communicate. She points to things she wants, whines or just stares at stuff until she gets it. I have never heard her use two words together, which is a concern to me because my daughter is only a month younger than her, and she can say hundreds of words and put together very lengthly sentences (up to about ten words).
I have also noticed other things that seem off for a girl her age. She has some major separation issues when her mother leaves her, even just to go into the next room. When she finally calms down from her mother being gone, she tends to prefer to be around other adults rather than children her own age. She also seems to have a pretty hard time adjusting to differences/changes.

Will she grow out of this, or are these signs of something else?

how do I bring this up to her parents?

She says cat, dog, duck, gator, sun, moon, spider, tiger, milk, cookie, all done, mama, dada, no-no, lion, squirrel, yellow, red, water, juice, up, down, bird, walk, fish, two, ten, otter, nut, loon, yogurt, snack, rabbit, bear, toys, cup, and a bunch of other words I can't remember right now. Is she advanced or do all 1 year olds have this kind of vocabulary. I was a nanny ages ago, but I don't remember how much they talked at this age.

He drinks out of his sippy cup with handles, he hates the other kind, but once it is half empty he gets frusterated because he doesn't know how to hold it up more to get the rest of the juice out. I hold it up for him while saying up...up...up but it is not working.

I am a stay at home mom and I watch 2 other children a boy who is 17months and a girl who is 15 months. My son from day 1 has been with me when i would nanny and as of oct last yr i started to stay home. so this is not a new thing for him he has always had to share me but im wondering if its something else. My son in the past 3 months has started to blatenly not listen to what i say. he will hit the other kids or if i ask him to do or not to do something he will hit what ever is closest to him. I treat all the kids equally and when the 2 leave at the end of the day my son gets ALL my attention since his dad works all the time. Im just wondering what is the best way i can handel this. my patience is runnig thin and i feel horrible raiseing my voice all the time.

She is homeschooled and was 6 in Jan but is very athletic and very smart. She seems to avoid learning to print her alphabet. It has been 20 years since I've taught that level, and I'm sure there are some new ideas floating around. Want to help Grandma here ? PLease be nice, respect the elderly :)

I would like to work with my son on what is covered in preschool. He will still attend preschool, just not 2 years of it. He is a quick learner but I need info from a teacher or parent that their child has already attended preschool so I can have a baseline to make sure he is up to speed. He will be 4 y.o. in November. thanks.

Can anyone recommend any? It seems as if my toddler wants new things and is getting tired of blocks, plush toys, etc. She does play with and pretend to feed dolls, and loves interactive games on sesameworkshop.org. Can anyone recommend a game that we could play, besides peek-a-boo? She's too young for Memory, Lucky Ducks, etc. Also they have to be sitting and or standing games (something to do while standing would be great for toning her legs) as she's not walking yet.

We have 2 boys, so the second always gets the first shoes, so we've always tried going for quality ones knowing they have to last thru 2 kids (at least) and they have. These tennies they wear everyday for maybe 6-8 months. However wondering how others stackup, the older one would now like some lighted ones, but didnt see them at our normal store, and thinking of trying target or others. Any experience.

this is the same question as before he punches her in the stomach and face and made her head bleed from flipping her off a ride on bike on purpose.... what should i do i showed this to the kids mom and this is her response..i understand that andrew can be mean at times but hes not a evil little boy, and not as mean as your making him out to be. hes a BOY!!!! everyone plays rough with him, tom does too. i only heard chris's side of what happened. and i'm not being stubborn i just havent had time to talk to chris about this situation, and yes andrew does ask about you guys. i can really care less about what other people think! he's only 4 he will grow out of it. its weird andrew has been going to school now for about 3 weeks and his teacher says he is doing great, no bad talk no hitting so i belive it is a fase. you know we love angel alot, but NEITHER one of the kids i think know the concept of sharing and thats were the fustration comes in on BOTH ends.

I have a toddler and I still can't give up the bottle brush! Should I be worried? I keep finding new uses for them and I don't think I will be able to NOT have on at my kitchen sink!

I use it still for sippy cups and other cups that I can't get my hands into because they are shaped oddly.

I've been known to use an old one to clean out flower vases before I toss it.

What uses have you found for the bottle brush?

My 25 month old daughter has lately started refusing to take a nap. I know little children grow out of the nap stage eventually. The problem is she gets terribly irritable in the early evening around 5 or so when her dad gets home now. I know it's because she didn't get that nap.
Her schedule used to be something like this:

7:30-8am wake up
1:30-3pm nap
8:30pm bedtime

Now it's more like...

9:30am wake up
~NO NAP ALL DAY~
5pm early evening temper tantrums begin (last until bedtime)
8:30pm bedtime

I have tried to lay her down around her usual nap time but she has a fit until I come get her. Should I just give up?

It is a receiving blanket that has been with her since birth, almost for 4.5 years. We just could not find a substitute, with a similar pattern and texture. It has been washed hundreds of times. So that won't be easy to find one with the same feel. She is attached to it so much and she needs that to sleep. She cried for it several times before finally went to sleep quite late. We still let her keep the hope of finding it soon, although it is next to impossible. We wonder how to make her accept the fact that the blanket is gone forever. At the same time, I am debating whether it is good to develop similar attachment to something else.

My little girl is 3 and starts Nursery after the easter hols. She is looking forward to it and I had no worries about it until we went for a visit. She had been out of nappies day and night for about 6 months now and doesn't have accidents anymore. She's really good, but I always help her to do zips and buttons etc, and when she does a poo its me who wipes her bot. She can't do it herself and the nursery say that they are not allowed to help them at all even with my permission. She's not allowed a change of clothes with her and not allowed wipes which makes it slightly easier. I'm dreading her starting now as I'm not sure how she'll get on with it. I think she's too young to be wiping her own bot. I can only make sure that she wears clothes that are easy to pull down when she goes to the toilet but the bottom wiping really worries me. I've tried explaining to her and tried to show her how but she can't do it. I'm dreading her starting now!!!

Its really bad. He only gets water and 1 glass of juce through the day. He gets milk in the morning and at night. I know that smelly urine has to do with how much water intake you get and he get plenty. Is there any thing else I could do? Like give him different foods or is he lacking a vitamins?
