A coloring book and some washable crayons for the 3 yr old would be a useful gift and also inexpensive. As for the 18 month old, maybe some inexpensive outside play toys, such as a pail w/shovel. Aren't neices and nephews sooooo sweet, and you can send them home to mom and dad when you start getting tired.
