We have 2 boys, so the second always gets the first shoes, so we've always tried going for quality ones knowing they have to last thru 2 kids (at least) and they have. These tennies they wear everyday for maybe 6-8 months. However wondering how others stackup, the older one would now like some lighted ones, but didnt see them at our normal store, and thinking of trying target or others. Any experience.

Wal-Mart or PayLess. They have many styles to choose from. (And they're inexpensive!!)

I don't know how much money you're spending on each pair of "quality" shoes, but if its more than $30, you'd probably just be better off buying them each a new pair at Payless, Walmart, Shopko, KMart, or Fred Meyer for $15. We get my son's shoes at either Payless or Walmart and he also wears them for 6-8 months. They're generally still in good enough condition to pass on to someone else.

I just saw a report on 20/20 last week where they cut open a pair of $15 sneakers and a pair of $150 sneakers and they both looked exactly the same on the inside.

My son had a pair of lighted Skeechers and my nephew has them now and they still look pretty good!
I have gotten shoes at The childrens place and Old Navy and they do not last very long even for one child. I have not tried Target. My daughter has valgus heels and needs to wear Stride Rite or Keds and they seem to hold up pretty good. They also have lighted ones

I reuse everything except my toddler's daily shoes. They really get worn and don't seem to have as much bounce by the time the next one uses them. I do repeat on the dress shoes and boots.
Just a thought...

Wal-mart or Payless. Also if you can afford to buy your little one his/her own shoes it is better. It is not advised to reuse shoes. Kids feet are different and the have different wear patterns from one another and passing them down could cause problems with the little one's feet.
