She says cat, dog, duck, gator, sun, moon, spider, tiger, milk, cookie, all done, mama, dada, no-no, lion, squirrel, yellow, red, water, juice, up, down, bird, walk, fish, two, ten, otter, nut, loon, yogurt, snack, rabbit, bear, toys, cup, and a bunch of other words I can't remember right now. Is she advanced or do all 1 year olds have this kind of vocabulary. I was a nanny ages ago, but I don't remember how much they talked at this age.

A one year old, on average, has a handful of words. Not nearly as many as your daughter. By 15-18 months, the average for a child is 10-20 words! Your daughter has advanced expressive language skills!

My son said about 50 words when he was 1 year. In preschool, his teachers said he was advanced for his age with his vocabulary. He is 6 now and still talks a lot. LOL. If you're curious about her progress, buy the book "What To Expect The First Five Years". It's put out by the same people who did "What To Expect When You're Expecting". It has a list of all the ages and what they "should" be able to do and then what is considered "advanced". It's nice. Good luck!

Your baby is advanced. Most kids just say a couple of words at this age. She will probably always be pretty sharp. It seems to me that if a small child has advance vocab, they are going to always be ahead, but even if they don't, that does not necessarily mean they are not smart. I think showing a big UNDERSTANDING shows intelligence, whether they use the words or not.

I spoke in full sentences by one year old, and old ladies at the mall were amazed and said to my mom how they were so impressed. I think some children take a long time to talk, and some are early. I think your kid is pretty smart, but in the average range. If a parent teaches their baby baby sign language, they take a lot longer to learn how to talk because it is not necessary.

It depends.

Girls mature quicker than boys, so their vocab is AMAZING! My cousin's kid knew how to write by the time she was 2.

Is your baby advanced? Maybe. It's too early to say if she's gifted or just a fast learner.

Just enjoy this stage and don't get too caught up in comparing her with other kids. She may learn how to walk slower or not master something at a slower rate.

My son is 19 months and only says a handful of words so I'd say she is somewhat advanced. But diffucult to guage that this early in life. Good start tho!

To me it's normal -my own kids and every other kid in my vast family was like that, except for one. And he still understood everything, it was really like he was just shy.

I have read, and believe, that it has everything to do with how and how much you interact with them. You must be a good mommy, doing things like reading to her often and speaking clearly to her instead of in a baby voice like some people will do. Keep up the good work.

Every child should be this way. It just depends how much one on one they get with a parent or caregiver. Both my children talked, could spell, write and read before entering kindergarten. It's great she is learning so well, you are giving her great building blocks for her future!
