Toddler & Preschooler - September 2006

I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going to do but I was wondering what other parents would think about this. I have a day care in my home, it's nap time for the kids at the moment, and I have a family that is constantly late in paying me. I have contracts and payment policies that everyone must sign before I will watch their kids. I have had many conversations with the family about paying late and have made them include a late payement charge in their fees on several occasions. They haven't paid me yet this week and are asking me to hold their check until Thursday. I'm thinking of telling them they cannot bring their child back to the day care until the check is in the bank and has cleared through my account. I'm so tired of this, I don't know what else to do! I would love opinions on this. Thanks everyone.

My daughter's socks are so tight around her little ankles that they leave indentations. I've tried everything in the way of stretching, and they just snap back into place. Does anyone know of any sock brands that are a little looser in the ankles?

, to the point where I want to lock him in a closet. Nothing is wrong with him physically, he's not sick, he just walks around the house whining...why and how can I curb this.

I sometimes where belly shirts and short skirts on my 3 year old daughter. I think its really cute , because of her fat little belly and chunky legs. I would like to know when other parents have stopped dressing their little cuties in these outfits ? One of my friends stopped when her daughter turned 4. Is that a good age ? We are going to have problems getting clothes that cover her up as she gets older. She has long legs and a long torso. If I buy her larger size clothing , then she looks sloppy and nothing fits right. Her pants will fall down. Thanks everyone.

My 4 year old tells me that that he doesn't want to go to preschool b/c he has no friends. His teacher tells me that he plays with all the kids and when my mother in law picks him up he is playing with the other kids. Is this a sympathy ploy?

How do you get the baby off of the bottle?

Ok...Moms or Dads....your only child spends every other weekend getting spoiled, having no rules or bedtimes and then comes home and acts like a spoiled brat from having no rules...but he's also sad because he misses his Dad. He's four and I don't think he sees his Dad enough...you know, four days per month...except July.

I KNOW that he doesn't have bedtimes or healthy diets or God Forbid, have to pick up toys at his Dad's house.

How do I help my son cope with not seeing his Dad enough..and to help my son understand why mommy makes him pick up toys, but Dad doesn't? I don't want to sling mud at my ex, and I don't think he does to me either...but, when he only sees him 4 days a month...wouldn't you spoil him too?

How would you handle this?

and , no matter what , everytime i ask my daughter to do something she just ignores me. if i tell her not to do something , she makes it her goal to do exactly what i have asked her not to do. please tell me if all 3 year olds are like this. it won't be until next summer till she turns 4 and my gray hair is doubling by the day. this behavior of crying and screaming when she doesnt get her way hsa been going on for a couple of months and i am really worn out. i spend so much time trying to figure out how to handle these tantrums and nothing is working. i try to ignore them but it makes it worse . i always end up giving in. yesterday she deliberaltely started throwing things at me out of anger and i put her in time out at least 4 times for misbehaving. i dont want to spank her cause i dont want to teach her to hit others to get her way. any suggestions?

My child is going to be 2 years in a few months. He has started talking a few words. I take him out somewhere everyday, but at other times he mostly remains home with me. Sometimes he gets bored. So i was wondering whether should i put him in a play school for half a day? I just want to know whether it is good to put a kid this early is school or should i wait till he completes 2 years.

He is two years old and has a small protusion on his belly, which the doctor says is a hernia. They're waiting 10 months to see if it corrects itself.

But he is very small for his age, quite skinny, do'es really stanky poos and his hair (which was once normal) has gone quite thin, spiky and sparse.

Though he is perfect in every other way, has developed well, is very intelligent and in good health, is this all down to the hernia?

This is my great-grandson. He was an 'angel' until just recently. Last week, playing, he hit another boy to tears, and yesterday, I took him to McDonald's to play in the tubes, and he bit a little boy while in there. I immediately took him out, and took him home, and no cartoons last night. I talked to him about it, but wonder why kids do this, and how can I help him get over it? He is an only child.

My son is 28 months old. He goes to bed by 11.00 pm only. He wakes up at around 8 am. His daytime nap is around 1.00pm, for 1.5 - 2 hours. Do you think this much sleep is sufficient for him? I feed him the dinner at around 7.00pm, but still he is very active and energetic even around 11.00pm. How can I adjust his routine so that I can make him sleep by around 9.00pm atleast?

Thank you.
