My daughter has guzzled down milk since she was born ~ shes now 2 years old and STILL drinking lots of milk! She always drank more than reccomended but I can safely tell you that you have nothing at all to worry about! If anything..you should feel glad that your child is a fan of milk as its not only good for the bones but also for the teeth! The only down fall to drinking huge amounts of milk is the childs weight.. but again,my daughter is quite a chubby kid yet is healthy as ever! So as long as your child gets plenty of exercise, you really have nothing to frett about hun! Your doing a good job! :) x

My daughter was/is a milk hog too! She would drink so much that she wouldn't eat food! Her doctor told me no more than 16 ounces a day!!!! She's going to be 3 soon and she still drinks more than that although she now drinks water.

Too much milk can interfere with the child getting needed nutrients from food and can be fattening due to all the calories.

Kids should have no more than 4 oz of juice a day.

My son went through that, I couldnt give him juice because he had baby reflux. I talked to the dr's when he was 18 months old about it and he said its nothing to be worried about, but he wouldnt eat he would just fill up on milk. I figured he needed some vitamins because he couldnt be getting all that he needed in milk alone. Then at his 2 year check up still had the same problem so I saw the other ped. in the ofc. and he pretty much yelled at me said he could get Milk induced anemia. He told me not to give him that much milk. The bright side of it is...I couldnt starve my child, if he wanted milk I really had a hard time telling him no. So I continued to give it to him. Then I started telling him the milk was ocky (sp.) that I had to buy more and jsut didnt let him see in the fridge, then he would drink other things and I could weene him off the milk.

Your baby is not a cow, and cow's milk is designed to grow calves, not toddlers. Too much of anything is not good. Cow's milk is lower in some nutrients humans need, and higher in some things than is good for us.

Too much cow milk can put a strain on the kidneys, and on the digestive system. Your toddler should be eating a variety of foods, and he should be drinking plenty of water. You say he "won't drink water" but this might be because he knows if he holds out for a few minutes he'll get whatever he wants. Just a thought. You are the parent, you need to make good choices for him, so he will learn to make good choices when he is older.

I have 2 kids who are allergic to cow's milk. It's not always good for every kid!

I am a mother of two boys under age 5. I suggest watering the milk down gradually, if you do it slowly he wont notice the difference in the taste. Before you know it, he'll be drinking 50/50 milk & water, eventually he will probably drink pure water. This is how I did it with my kids & they now choose to drink water over any other fluid most days! (I also add water to juice).

At 14 month, there is such a thing as too much milk. He needs to be getting nutrients from normal table foods, not milk. Make him eat more regular food, the milk consumption would automatically go down.

The best thing to do is to give him water or juice even if he doesn't drink it. He will cry at first. You should feed him 3-4 times daily, give him 24oz of milk, 4 oz of juice, and water to drink in between.

When kids drink too much milk they are not getting the nutrients they need from food, because they are filling their little bellies with milk...
You should give him 24oz a day and insist he drink water the rest of the time, it will be hard for a few days but he will get used to it, water should always be giving when a child is thirsty, it helps them stay hydrated.

Good Luck

Milk is good for him HOWEVER there IS a thing as too much milk. Are you giving him full fat (regular) milk? That's how a lot of children are over weight. I see it all the time, parents have no idea why their little one ain't so little and they say that they don't go to McDonalds or feed them junk food, it's the amount of wht they give them. Yes fruit is good, but if they eat several pounds of anything, it's too much. I would down grade to 2% or skim if that is all he drinks. Same nutrients, but less fat.
