If a seven-year-old child has been up much of the night and been having nightmares and is still looking peaky should the *first* thing a parent do is to ask him to fetch his schoolbag so she can see what homework he has and then tell him that they are going visiting today and he will have to sit and do the homework on Sunday upsetting the child after he has been relaxed at last after a troubled night and leaving him in tears as they get into the car?
Shouldn't a child's health and welfare (which includes his state of mind which affects physical health too especially if sleep is disturbed) come ahead of schoolwork which he can catch up with anytime.
I never made my boys do homework if they were sick and I would never have allowed the school to pressure them so at the age of seven anyway.
What sort of world are we creating for our children by putting them under such pressure - and shouldn't parents be resisting that not adding to it?

i know if i had a kid i wouldnt let them us the internet (unsupervised) until they were at least 13 years old

if more parents looked after there children maybe we could have less censorship and the internet sites like these would be less phony

At issue is 6.6 million children who will no longer have any health coverage after Sept 30th if nothing is done...

But Bush has promised a veto, saying the measure is too costly, unacceptably raises taxes
Democrat's claim the money would come from adding $35 billion over five years to the program, adding 4 million people to the 6.6 million already participating. It would be financed by raising the federal cigarette tax by 61 cents to $1 per pack. and not raising income taxes as bush claims...

so what do you think? is adding a higher cigarette to pay for kids health care out of line and deserving of a Veto?
or should we be doing anything it takes to get a handle on this countries health care problem?

I am a mum of 2 - ages nearly 3 and 1 and half.
I am doing an access course and hope to go to uni to study radiography. I cant help feeling guilty and wondering if my kids will resent me for this and if i will regret it myself. As a single mum I am trying to do the best for my children and want them to have a good future but feeling really guilty about it also. Any one is the same situation and what are others thoughts on the issue, all answers welcome

Why do my parents always get mad at me when i tell them something true? They start telling me if i talk like that one more time... or shutup...or even anything that they could do to get away from the fact that i am right and that they r wrong. It Pisses Me Off, they say there friends sons are smart and good grades and never talk back, and truthfully i dun believe that. Not saying im a bad kid i really getting my grades up this yr.

I believe it's parental control to make sure grade schoolers take shower or bath every day or at least every other day. If there's a kid under 10 not taking shower entire week, whose responsibility and fault not doing so would it be, kid or parent?

I'm in a little quandry here. It's common sense that pulling a child's hair is an effective behavioral modification technique. However, when does hairpulling cross over from effective parenting to overstepping parental boundaries? In Tehran, it is written under Islamic law that hair pulling is acceptable as long as there are no more than 3 bald spots as a result of previous hairpulling. However, I checked the books on this, and it appears that elsewhere, up to 5 bald spots are acceptable. When does it become too much? Thank you in advance for your help.

My 14 year old daughter has ran away several times, each times she gets in trouble either at school or she's cought lying.I have done my best the last few months to communicate with her and spend time together. The last time she was gone for 4 days with an older guy she met I took proper legal action. Now she was cought by a sherriff with an 18 yr old ditching school they called me let me know and they took her back to school, well I waited and waited and she never came out sneaked out probably. She called said she's ok but refused to meet me somewhere. What do I do she wants to have me worried sick so I'll forget what she did and thats exactly what's happening.I sneaked into her blog and she seems promiscuos.I thought of adding myself by making a fake profile. Please give me some advice. I dont understand whats her thing with older guys she knows they will end up in prison.

Its like he controls the whole house. Today after skool my brother tells me this lie and i didnt kno it. well he gets me in trouble for him damn lie...so my moms bf got in this bad mood cause i didnt kno i was supposed to go outside and help him do something cause my brother made up this dumb lie and i didnt kno wat to do. well whenever my moms bf is in a bad mood well guess wat my mom gets all mad. its like the bf dosnt want to go somewhere and she does well she just like dosnt go cause he dosnt want to go. if he wants to go somewhere makes us go if we dont wanna go. if the bf is in a bad mood so is my mom. its like everything revovles around him and wat he wants to do. its getting really annoying like he dosnt kno how to talk to teenagers were not babies. he gets mad at us for like the simplest things like putting our feet in the desk chair....its really annoying i just want him to like leave.

I have two children, ages 2 and 4. My mom always wants to take my son (4) and not my daughter. I feel bad and my daughter doesn't understand why she can't go. (Chuck-E-Cheese's, her house, the park, wherever) She (my mom) says that it's completely normal that she wants to spend time alone with him b/c she had 3 girls, never a boy. She has admitted that he is her favorite and says there's nothing wrong with that, every grandparent has a favorite. She NEVER takes my daughter alone. What do u think I should do.

My middle grandson has been having them lately and it is not just because he is staying here and out of his own bed because they were all happy here before (they share their Father and uncles' old bedroom and they love it - the younger two share at home and the eldest has his own bedroom and *there* they could all have a room each which I do not think is for the best).
Anyhow my worry is over the nightmares - should I ask my son to take him to the doctors? - my boys had nightmares from time to time but J. seems to be having them regularly and I worry that something is wrong.

Would you rather have a yard sale and make a few bucks off your children's clothing they have out grown or give it to family members who have children that age. Assuming the family member would not be offended, and would use them.

I would rather pass them down to someone I know could use them.

Who feels that women who choose to work, when they have kids, are not fully providing for their children as they should?

Each of my kids have unique issues medical, developmental, mental, etc. I talk my questions over with the Dr all the time. Right now, my youngest is in PT/OT/ST 3xs a week. My two older kids are in therapy once/week. I get concerned when teachers, family or friends tell me they think something is wrong.
I think I spend more time at the Dr than most parents b/c my children are different than most kids. Some people seem to think I'm overreacting.
FYI - My youngest (2) has sensory issues and is being tested for developmental disorders and autism. My middle child (7) is diagnosed bipolar and ADHD. My oldest (8) is ADHD, with possible mood disorder and exceptionally intelligent. His teachers have told me they are concerned b/c he is socially immature.

Should kids get spankings? I think that they do. If you repeatedly talk to a child about their behavior. I think that todays kids don't get enough spankings. Somewhere along the way kids thought "If you spank me, I will call Family and Children Services". Family and Children Services are for people that have problems, real problems. I don't call spanking a child for misbehavior, bad grades, smart mouth, not listening and etc abuse. This is called good parenting, not hitting. I think that this is the problem with todays children, not enough disciline and no respect. Tell me what you think.... By the way I am 33 and not 63, therefore I am not stuck back in the old days. What do you think about todays kids?

When I saw it, I just thought it was incredible that a child could learn things like this at such a young age. It's really cool in my opinion and wanted to share with as many parents as I could.

It seems my post upset a fair few young mums. I should have chosen my words better. I meant mums who have a baby for the fun of it then once they realise how hard it really is, they palm him/her off onto someone else or just don't take care of the baby properly.I come from a council background so im not a snob but there is a huge amount of young girls doing this, it seems too easy for them to have a baby, get a house & benefits-all for the wrong reasons.
A lot of people need benefits, but not use it on cigarettes & booze. A lot of people need council houses, to start a good life with a roof over your heads & there are some amazing young mums, just like there are rubbish older mums.
I was talking about the rough young girls with babies freezing cold, smoking fags, boyfriends have a can in their hand, pass their babys onto anyone else every other night shirking responsibility to get drunk-if this isn't you then im sorry my post upset you.
