I completely agree. My son is 14 years old and even for him we supervise to a certain extent and we have a lot of things blocked on our home computer and the kids need to ask permission to get on the internet and either I or their father will activate it for them.
My kids sometimes moan about this but you are right the internet is waiting for gullable, exposed kids and just as you know where your kids are when they step outside the front door it is important to know what they are doing on the internet and more importantly who they are communicating with.

I actually read an article in a parenting magazine that said the average parent spends about 30 minutes of quality time with their children per week! I guess that doesn't leave a whole lot of time to supervise their internet access. Now to play devil's advocate and speaking as one of the many, many parents that do spend more than 30 minutes with their kids. We are there and we are watching, I actually play the games with my kids, I just love club penguin! Don;t assume the censorship is because of lack of parenting I think it has more to do with the predators that are out there looking for the kids who only get the 30 minutes. So for their sake get over it! There are plenty of great sites that are not censored and like this one not phony.

My moms always let me use the Internet, we were one of the first people with a computer in our town. I never have used it for bad things, because she taught me better than that. She trusts me and knows that I wouldn't give personal information out. I also have a way higher typing speed than my other peers =)
I think that the Internet should be for everybody. The sickos who use it for porn and to find a kid to mess with are disgusting and should be removed from it, not the kids. Most kids need the Internet for school assignments also. I think I would let my child use the computer whenever they wanted to, I would just use a parental block.

This and many other sites need to be censored/filtered and not just for the kids! My kids aren't allowed on the computer unless I am present. Even then, with a filter, we've come across disgusting things!
Many parents allow their kids to mindlessly view the idiot box, the computer or video games so that they don't have to interact with them. It is really sad!

I agree. Our computer is in the family room, under my or my husband's watchful eye. I love and trust my kids as far as that goes - but several times we've had to guide them off certain pages that aren't "kid-friendly". I can only imagine what they'd see if we didn't watch them.

Because some Parents don't want to TAKE responsibility for their children's actions... -It's easier for them to blame the "Ways of the World" for how their kids turn out- then have DONE something about it- in the FIRST place. :(
