i have a set of twin girls (6 yrs of age) they both lie uncontrollably, as parents we understand that kids will lie and test their limits but this is seriously overdone beyond belief it's out control. they lie to get each other in trouble they lie to try and get themselves out of trouble and they lie to get something they want or mostly they lie just to lie, again it is out of control. we have spanked, yelled, grounded, and did the i'm dissapionted in you lecture but none of it works because 10 minutes later at most they are lieing again either to cover up the first lie or to run us around on the other kid or they just lie. so please write back we could use some input, we are not saying they don't have their good moments but lately the bad outweighs the good by far.

My three and a half year old daughter is, in general, very easy going and well behaved. We have always stressed consistency with our discipline. However, since I have been working part time, she has been staying with a friend of mine every afternoon for two hours. My friend has two kids that are my daughter's age and younger. She has so much fun that she throws a fit when it's time to leave. The first few weeks, I took away privileges immediately after getting home. It worked once or twice out of about 3 weeks. I then tried spanking. COMPLETELY inneffective. These are punishments that work in every other behavioral situation, and the lack of effectiveness here is frustrating. I feel like maybe I'm too close to the situation and cannot see the obvious solution.

Please do not say "Bust her butt!" or "You're the parent-make her mind!" It's not helpful or appreciated. My child is not a problem child-she just doesn't handle leaving play time well.

I've noticed that many parents let their grade school aged children sleep 10-12 hours a night and sometimes more. My 22mo old daughter sleeps about 11 hours at night and usually naps for an hour during the day. Are parents letting their older children get too much sleep?

My 9yr old step daughter seems to be more sluggish when she gets 10 or more hours of sleep compared to 8-9.
Why are parents putting their kids to bed so early? Do they just need time to themselves?

else? I loved single parenthood soooo much, now that I am with my partner things are much more stressful for everyone, regardless of the fact that i love him to death. Obviously those of you that are against single parenthood will disagree because kids "can't be raised properly without a mom and a dad present in the same house."

Regardless of all of that on a basic level single parenthood was just simply easier than doing it with someone else, but it seems not many people think that way...am I the only one?

I'm trying to write an argumentative paper on open vs. closed adoption... finding and thinking of arguments for closed adoption is easy, but what about open adoption?

The only thing I can think of is the fact that it's in human nature to want to know where you come from, etc. Any other suggestions?

Alright so we just bought our 16 month old a toddler bed and we have baby proofed the whole room in preparation for him to escape from his bed at night and wonder around his room. We have placed childproof locks on the doors so he can't open his door or his closet door also put a baby gate on the outside of his door in case he does get his door open. outlet covers on all of the outlets. drawer locks for his dresser so he doesn't pull them open and attempt to climb. now here is the problem we have his tv, dvd player and his vcr sitting on his dresser how can I avoid him potentially pulling that down also how do I make this transition from baby bed to big boy bed as easy as possible any ideas and if you know of anything else i possibly might have missed in means of baby proofing please let me know

My daughter's birthday is on the 14th (she will be 4) and I was shopping for her and I kept thinking to myself, she can't wear/use that, she is just a baby!! I know she is growing up but when will I actually see her as a preschooler/grade-schooler/ect. I even kinda miss my baby even though I am proud of her (she is so smart and sweet, ABC's, numbers, amazes me sometimes). I appreciate any feedback on this situation.

I found my 2 and 1/2 year old daughter dead in her crib 10 months ago when I was 2 months pregnant with my son. My daughter was born with a cyst on her brain that required a shunt and she also had septo optic dysplasia.. These 2 things were part of the cause of death. I now have a healthy baby boy but I constantly check him because I'm afraid I'll find him dead too. Am I being paranoid or have any of you been like this too?

is it true that the harder you crack down on your kids, the more they rebel?

For example: Im 14 and have tried numerous times to negotiate with my parents to let me date.... they havent budged on the issue even though I have tried to compramise.... so lately i find myself rebeling and doing things with guys... i think this is a result of them trying to keep me locked in a cage? (not literally of course)

what do you think?

my son was attacked at school by another boy. the other boy slammed my boy in the head with a lunch tray, then both the boys were made to clean the mess up, even though it was reported that my son was minding his own business when this happened. then after both boys were sent to class the other boy jumped my son on the stairs, knocking him down the stairs. at the bottom of the stairs my son got up and was forced to defend himself by punching the other boy because the other boy was punching him.
my son was punished by being suspended out of school for 3 days. this is now on his permanent record. the thing is my son has never been in trouble at school, and carries straight a's. he's 13 and now he has a negative outlook on school rules and the way they are inforced, and i can't say i blame him.

Ok soyou had somegood points in answer to mylast question but there are some things I'd like to ask?
1:One of you said'what if they want to do their homework in peace?'
Well for one that would not make a difference if they were different or same sexes, and for 2 they can always take it inturns or do homework in dining room, my room, living room

2: They will be curious about each others genetalia after a certain age.
It seems to me that the curiosity would come at avery young age say 3 or 4, and that by 9 or 10 any normal child who has been brought up properly would definitely not want to view the others genetalia. If they did they would need psychological help

3. They would want privacy from eachother:
That would happen whether they were same or different sex and can be resolved by a partition curtain, an hours private time in the room pre day, and teaching tolerance and patience.

Any thoughts?

We are expecting our first baby and my husband will become a first time dad at 26. He wants to have our second and last child before he turns 30 years old.

Most of his friends are in their 30's and 40's and didn't become dads until they were a lot older than 26. He says he feels like the "young" dad in his group of friends.

Is 26 really too young for a man to become a first time dad?

I think it's a good age, not too young and not too old! :)

It is quite strange:I treat nicely my boyfriend's kids (2-9yo), I play, I laugh, I talk but once in a while they really get on my nerves even doing nothing. I can get really sensitive that they would not say "hi" or "Bye",help me aournd the house.Or I start feeling overwhelmed with them and if they start to act up,I turn very negative negative and do not wanna be around at all. And to be honest, I like them but I do not love as if they would be my own kids.I feel they are not!Is it normal? Is there something i can do about it?
I think that my b/f expects unconditional love for them and cannot believe that this is how i am feeling.
BTW, I am 25 and have no my own kids. And we live together for 1.5yr

Well, my question is I guess, is how much do most Adoption's cost? I know.. A lot. But I just wanted a number. And, is it more expensive to do an adoption that you take the baby right after it is born? I know you can adopt newborns up to toddlers. and even older. But. We didn't think that we would have to even think about adoption... but it looks like we just might have to. Also. If any of you have had to adopt, how do you get over the fact that you can not carry a child of your own? I mean, I sort of known that I wouldn't be able to for almost a 8 months.. and it is still very hard for both me and my husband. Oh and one more thing, what do they look for in adoptive parents?

Thanks for your time and answers.

Was your Minister/ Priest/ Pastor so strict that he/she wanted you to chose only those of the same denomination for your child's sponsors?

Our Pastor is being overly strict, in my opinon. He insists that we find sponsors that are LCMS, like us. The only problem is that our friends and family (the ones that go to church on a regular basis and who are "spiritually mature") are LCMS, but they attend a differnent denomination simply because they found a church that is more fun for their children....they want to make church fun for their children... I want that quality in our child's God Parents!!! But, our Pastor is telling us to find other sponsors!!! How frustrating!

... eat whatever their kids leave behind on their plates?

Rarely do I ever get the chance to actually sit down with everyone to eat... as I am still in the kitchen cleaning up from making the lunch/dinner. By the time the kids are done eating, I'm just about done cleaning... so I sit down with them, (They are 10, 4, 2.5 yr. old twins and a one year old) and chat a bit. When they finish, I go and help them wash up, and then continue the clean up at the table... that is when I find myself munching on whatever is left behind, essentially for my own dinner, and never making my own plate.

What were your thoughts about that??? I am in total shock. The kids were 2 and 4. And they were smoking like pros. I am NOT buying the moms story that she was asleep and didn't smell a thing. I am so shocked that this has even happened. Man on man. I am glad that at least now the kids will be taken care of properly. What are your thoughts or comments???
