... eat whatever their kids leave behind on their plates?
Rarely do I ever get the chance to actually sit down with everyone to eat... as I am still in the kitchen cleaning up from making the lunch/dinner. By the time the kids are done eating, I'm just about done cleaning... so I sit down with them, (They are 10, 4, 2.5 yr. old twins and a one year old) and chat a bit. When they finish, I go and help them wash up, and then continue the clean up at the table... that is when I find myself munching on whatever is left behind, essentially for my own dinner, and never making my own plate.

LOL... my kitchen/eating area is an open layout. My husband works double shifts, so it's difficult without another parent to help... it seems things get really wiry around dinner time. But we make due...
The kids help "set up" the table and as I'm cooking/cleaning we do talk with one another. Conversation is never scarce here... lol...
I just want to keep up on ther cleaning so I don't get overwhelmed when it piled up. I'd hate for my husband to have to come home to a war zone!

Yes, l can see myself in you. Mothers really take their jobs seriously. We feed, dress, bathe and put them to sleep. We help them with school work and treat their wounds when injured. We pay attention to their "serious" troubles and laugh with them as they watch cartoons.
God cannot be beside us all the time so He created mothers. Such a difficult task but well worth it.

I had the same problem. Once I started though it just became easier than sitting down and eating, so I started snacking all the time. Next thing I knew my pants were not fitting right. Take my advice, the cleaning can wait. Sit down and relax. Talking with your kids can be a great way to unwind and relax. Besides you digest your food better and get full faster so you stop snacking. When you sit with your kids and have a discussion you are showing your kids that they are important and what they are doing is important. It is best to do that without the preoccupation on washing dishes and cleaning up. It is only 10 minutes of your time the dishes and mess can wait, but your kids they are more important.

Kids drool, and are generally unclean, not washing their hands carefully after using the bathroom, sticking their hands in the dog dish, chewing and spitting back out, etc. They get used to their germs but adults have to be careful. I didn't eat off their plate, it just seemed so yucky!
Please do make yourself a plate and sit down with them, its good for them to know dinner is a family time to take a break and be together. But as much as I loved my little ones, their food was their own.

ummm not me. Make it a point to have everything ready then sit down with your own plate and enjoy a family meal. Leave the cleaning until after you enjoy the meal with your family -- the mess isn't going anywhere! Then maybe have the 10 year old and the 4 year old help you clean up. They grow up fast -- you want to enjoy them while they are little and have some quality time.

why not sit and eat with them instead of cleaning up while they eat, and once they are done being washed up then clean the mess up. Or if your not able to do that then wait till they are settled in bed to clean. Remember quality time with your children is more important then a messy kitchen.

Yup, I do it all the time, sometimes there just isn't enough time in the day.
My goodness you have your hands full, God bless you. What I do sometimes, is leave the kids with my husband(I only have 2..) and grab a nice lunch at a restaurant with a book for a couple of hours. It's nice to get away for a bit, and it gives you chance to recharge.
Maybe you can find someone to watch them for a bit? You should do it for yourself, you deserve it!!

With that many kids, I'm not surprised!
I must say that I dont usually do that. Rather, I just end up making one bowl or plate for my 2 year old daughter and I to share. Or I often make it through an entire day, start getting ready for bed, and realize... I forgot to feed myself, lol! Kudos to you!

Sometimes I ll get side tracked and forget I was eating something and come back to nothing there, he just smiles and tells me that he thought I was done.LOL!!! Most days Im crawling in bed before I remember that I havent eaten....or when its actully quiet enough to hear my stomach grawl!!! LOL!!!

My son is just a baby...but I will warm his food and make my self a bowl of cereal or whatever is quick and then we sit down face to face with the highchair tray between us and we eat our meals together.
It works for now...and I just have the one...
But hey mom...whatever works!
