Alright so we just bought our 16 month old a toddler bed and we have baby proofed the whole room in preparation for him to escape from his bed at night and wonder around his room. We have placed childproof locks on the doors so he can't open his door or his closet door also put a baby gate on the outside of his door in case he does get his door open. outlet covers on all of the outlets. drawer locks for his dresser so he doesn't pull them open and attempt to climb. now here is the problem we have his tv, dvd player and his vcr sitting on his dresser how can I avoid him potentially pulling that down also how do I make this transition from baby bed to big boy bed as easy as possible any ideas and if you know of anything else i possibly might have missed in means of baby proofing please let me know

To make the transition easier, let him take something he kept in his crib with him to his new bed (blankets, toys, etc.) Also let him have more ownership in the process by letting him pick out some sheets and pillow cases for his new bed. Also be prepared to have him up and running around a lot until he gets used to going to bed. I would remove the tv, vcr, and dvd player out of the room all together unless you can get it mounted up really high. If he is accustomed to using the tv to go to sleep then this transition will be very difficult but in the long run he will be better off not having it in his room anyways.

You've done a great job already. As far as the tv and vcr you can buy tv holder that hangs from the ceiling (like in a doctors office). You can also try buying a cabinet for the tv that is heavy enough that it won't tip over. I'm not sure if he's talking yet, but if he is explain to him that he's going to be a big boy now. Involve him in the process. Let him pick out the sheets and comforter for the bed. Tell him he will get a reward for staying in bed and sleeping like a special cereal in the morning.

I would take the tv out of the room at night.

Here is what i done. I bought the bed but i put it next to our bed to let him get use to it, yes a few nights after putting him into the toddler bed when we woke up he would be back in the bed with us but after about a week he stayed in the toddler bed.
We moved it out of our room into his and when it was bed time he was more than happy to sleep in his big boy bed.
His bedroom is right next to ours and we would and still leave his door, our door opened up at night.
A kid will climb anything and that is why i would not have a dresser with a heavy tv on it in his room.
My son use to try to climb a 30 gallon fishtank which was on a stand and it was in the living room but i sold it thinking he would eventally turn it over.

for now, i would take the tv/vcr/dvd out, till you can wall mount it
then,, when he goes to bed, make a production out of it, he is graduating,,,,,,, maybe have a special little cake for him, and a hat (there is a reason we do graduations in life, to mark an ending and a beggining )
you might want to leave his door open the first few nights, if you normally shut it,,,, so that he feels more comfortable, and not left alone with this new thing,,,,,, make sure you have removed his crib also

keep in mind little boys will climb anything, and are very creative,,,,,,, so look at curtains,,,, blinds, any chair or stools or even toy box that could be pushed up against anything else or used to climb

I kinda think 16 months is too young for a toddler bed I mean I have a 19 month old and I know putting her in one now would be deterimental to my sleep and stress levels lol I think you need to wait a little longer although I will say you did an awesome job babyproofing but the locks on the doors worry me a bit in case of fires and such and also remove that tv now hes too young for the junk in his room your gonna cause yourself problems with that. Unless your looking for an electronic babysitter...

They sell wall mounts. You put the TV on a swivel wall mount, and it will have a place for the dvd player and everything.... just out it all up high in a corner of the room and then secure the wires with those little wire sticky holders they sell anywhere (walmsrt target or home depot). Then the tv and the wires are out of reach. You should be able to find the wall mount at any store that sells electronics and hardware.

Good Luck! ;-)

Put his bed on the floor for a few weeks so he gets used to the boundaries of his bed without too far to fall if he falls out. Take the TV and other electronics out of his room. TV for very young children is not healthy for brain development, and letting them him get used to needing a TV in his room sets him up for future sleep troubles. Children should not have TV's in their rooms, because you cannot be in there supervising when and what they watch.

I would take the tv, dvd player and vcr OUT of the room. At 16 months, he sure enough doesnt need it in there.

Then you should be set for safety.

He is too young! If you had to do all this preperation then he still needs to be in a crib!! If your problem was he was climbing outta the crib you should have used a crib tent!! I'll give you the link to walmart. They sell them there.
