I live in the midlands-central England and they have been forecasting snow for a few days. Dudley city council closed their schools down before there was even any snow!

I am concerned that our children will grow up thinking that the world comes to a stop when it snows.

Please don't get me wrong i don't work and don't care that my kids don't have to go in, but i have a housefull of other parents children who've had to go into work.

I remember being a kid and walking to school in so much snow that it would go into my wellies or i'd lose my balance.

i worry that society is teaching children wrongly, i can understand old people staying in or people that don't need to go out but come on, it's just a bit of snow isn't it?

Why do some people think they have the right to criticize other people's parenting skills? They think they know everything there is to know and don't give a sh*t if they step on other people's feelings. People that come on here to get advice aren't asking to be put down by other people. So my opinion is that if you don't have anything to say that's helpful then don't even bother to post an answer! Who all feels the same way?

I dont have a babysitter, and my husband works so I have to take my kids with me. My 7 mo old sits up front in the infant seat and I have to put my 22 mo old in the basket part. He somewhat enjoys sitting there and "helping" mommy put things in the cart but can get a little out of hand somtimes and refuses to sit down. For the 1st time, which I knew would happen sooner or later, he fell out. Hes okay, dont worry, but scared me to death! Its the only way I can shop, I cant let him walk beside me because I will be chasing him all over and never get any shopping done. Our store does not have the carts with the 2 seats up front for 2 kids. And I DO NOT have the luxury of a babysitter because everyone works. Any suggestions? I distract him the best I can but Im running out of options. Hes almost 2 and doesnt quite grasp the fact of "doing what he is told" quite yet. Thanks for your help.

The other day my mother in law asked if she could watch my son, I agreed without a seconds thought. I never would have thought what I seen when I came back would have happened. I came back to the house to get my son, I knocked on the door for a good five minutes before she got to the door. When she finally opened the door she was staggering around and she reeked of alcohol and appeared as if she had just woke up. My son looked like he had been screaming and, his stuff was scattered all over the place and her house looked like it was wrecked. When she went to pack his stuff back up into his bag, when I got back home I realized that she had put dog treats in his diaper bag. When we went to leave she went to pick up my son to hug him and almost dropped him i quickly grabbed him from her and was so furious with her I just left without freaking out on her. How should I handle this, my husband is beyond angry with her. I don't know what to do, I know I don't want her to watch him

...how do you censor the older child's tv/video games, or do your younger kids get to watch things that the older kid didn't at their age?

I think it's more important to explain to the child what he or she did wrong...if they apologize when they're not sorry, that teaches them to lie to make people feel better, wouldn't you say? It's good manners of course, but I think lots of parents forget or don't want to take the time to make sure that their children know what they did wrong first (also, to anyone who agrees and has children, I've heard time outs rather than spankings result in more thought on what the child did wrong, in case you were interested).
What do you think?

There seems to be a war in this country called the mommy wars between moms who stay home with thier kids and moms who work outside the home and put thier kids in day care. I am an Aunt who takes care of her nieces, It seems like people in general think moms who stay home dont really work and thier is also an "aire" that moms who work dont live within thier means. How can I minister to these moms because it is the hardest occupation thier is because 24/7/365. What can I do to bless and encourage these
moms because ALL moms are working moms Thank you for your answers

I am writing an oratory speech on choosing adoption rather than abortion. I have some ideas, but I can't really organize them into actual thoughts. So any opinions or suggestions would be nice. Thanks!

I don't know what to do anymore. I do not believe in hitting a child. To my child a slap on the butt is playing around. He laughs. He yells at me and makes me feel like I am the bad guy. I don't know how to get the respect and love from him at the same time. He loves me. But he doesn't respect me. He is not a bad child. My concerns are he doesn't following simple rules when told. They have to be retold to him. I have to say things up to 5 times before he does it. I don't know what to do? I kinda need that super nanny at my house.

I need advice on how to say no without feeling mean, and how to provide little guidances on things that a single father doesn't notice, and I can't look past. Like picking his nose, talking with a mouthful of food, and respecting other people's things. I also need to set certain privacy boundaries. I just feel very uncomfortable telling him what to do, even though I am the "adult in charge" every night when his dad is at work. M
My boyfriend is very open when I bring up issues, but I would hate to bring nit-pickey things up every single day. I want to be able to handle these little things, but still let him deal with the heavy parenting.

She is 10 yrs old and is scared to death to sleep in her room alone..She's been having nightmares of someone breaking in and trying to hurt her. It's so bad that at night when I try to make her go to her room to sleep, she cry's hysterically and begs me not to make her sleep alone. And when I have tried to stay stern about it,she forces herself to stay awake all night long...I am very concerned about this and do not know what to do...Should I seek professional help?Should I let her just sleep in our room until she is ready to go back on her own?She is 10 yrs old,but she is still a little kid...I am really lost here and need some good advice..Any thoughts...Oh,we have tried night lights, letting her sleep with the tv or stereo on,I've tried staying til she fell asleep, but she wakes as soon as I try to leave, and I've tried making her sleep alone, nothing has worked...Any suggestions?

Do you check your child's activity online? Check their Yahoo/Answers profile or 360 or myspace page???

I don't mean snooping and ragging at every little thing.

I"m asking b/c I see these kids online who say they're about 15 and they obviously need some TLC from mom/dad. They're just screaming for help. My daughter is 14, however, b/c she is in special ed. she is very limited on the internet.

But I do check on her. Sometimes, I may glance over her shoulder or ask her what she's doing, who she's emailing. I have even logged into her account. It may be different for me b/c she's in special ed. and she doesn't have the freedoms or knowledge of the average 14/15 yr old, but I wonder if I would do the same even if she wasn't. Based on what I see here, yes I definately would/will.

This past weekend my friend Katie had sex with a guy, and they are just friends. That same night she got a text from a guy that he is friends with and she has never even given him her #. Then on Tues. night he snuck over to her house and had sex again. She only told a couple of her closest friends and now random pp are saying stuff to him about it. He is now texting her saying he will hurt her or her friends if anything else is said and he mentioned guns and knives. What should she do???

The activity was ignored by everyone, even calls to the police, and chalked up to being the child's imagination when it was going on. Is there anything that could be done to make sure the parents paid for their wrongdoings or is it too late?
