because i dont.
Parents have been doing that kind of thing for hundreds of years..
people's objections and reasoning for not spanking kids is RIDICULOUS. i kno that my parents and millions of others have been "threatened" with switches as a child..
i was even spanked when i was little...and im probably one of the best behaved kids i know.

parents are getting soft and they are wanting to be their childrens friends. thats ruining kids. they arent doing what they have to do to teach their children right from wrong. now there are limits. but a swat on the butt when your child misbehaves isnt that bad!!!
besides, i remeber as a kid i would get spanked and in a minute or two i was fine, but i still knew that if i did that again, i would get spanked again.

and now, the government has started to control the way we discipline kids. which i think is completely wrong. the government is getting too personal. unless its abusive, they should have no decision on how we raise our children.

I have read the milestone charts for two years. They say that my son who just turned two should be dressing and undressing himself. Using the potty,Draws a vertical line Draws a circle, washing his own hair. come on
Oh and my 10 month old should • Wave goodbye
Says "mama" and "dada" to the correct parent
• Indicates wants with gestures • Stands alone for a couple of seconds
• Puts objects into a container
come on. I think it is too much pressure on parents to make their children keep up with the Jones' My son does many things a three year old can do, but can't dress himself. It's like telling a goose to lay a golden egg. What do you think?

When your wife/girlfriend/whatever was pregnant, how did you feel about it? Did you find her more, equally, or less attractive? Were you creeped out by the baby in there, and didnt want to have sex, or did it matter to you? AFTER baby, did you still find her as attractive as before? Do you see her differently than you did before the baby came along? What ways?

Just curious...
I'm a mama, and I know how my man feels. Just wondering how OTHER men feel about their significant other during and after pregnancy. Thanks guys! :)

I think that its possible that todays consumerist, self-gratifying spiritual vacuum has caused many kids in the UK have somehow become self-centred, rude, unfeeling and vicious towards each other, their parents and their elders (e.g. think of happy slapping etc)

I cannot help but draw comparisons between my childhood and the freedoms enjoyed by kids of today. At the age of 13/14/15 my dad imposed a TV watershed of 9pm, at which point I was given the option of going to sleep at 9 or joining my dad to watch Newsnight. Most kids today have TVs in their bedrooms.

The first party I ever went to by myself was at the age of 16 and I was only allowed to go because it was my friends party and my dad knew my friends mum. In contrast my niece has been "going clubbing" since around the age of 13.
I was smacked (albeit v.rarely) as a kid and it genuinely did me no harm. Now smacking is illegal yet seems kids are more violent and rude than ever.

are we ruining them?Or nurtuting them?

My daughter is 18 months now and I am 5 months pregnant. She will be 22 months when the baby is born. Right now she loves her crib and never has tried to crawl out of it. I realize you should move a toddler to a bed a couple months before or after the baby is born. I just don't know which would be better. I don't want to rush her out of the crib but I also don't want it to be harder for her to give up the crib later. I don't want to buy a second crib for just a couple months. I also need to have a planned c-section so lifting her in and out will be hard. I am so torn with what to do. I am looking for people who have had experience or have known someone to go through this. What do you suggest? Thanks in advance!

Ok, I have this friend and her and I have 2 children each who are the same age. Our sons are 5 and our daughters are 8.5 months. I already put my daughter into a convertable car seat and she is still "searching"for the one that she really wants. The thing is our babies are 24-25 pounds (big girls). She still has her daughter in an infant car seat and she is getting ready to buy her convertable car seat. She is going to put her foward facing cause "it is easier on her" I know that the law says they have to be 1 yr AND 20lbs and my daughter IS rear facing in her big girl car seat. She says she doesnt care and that the baby will be fine, but I really care about her kids. Also her son should still be in a booster seat (he just turned 5) and she has had him out of his car seat since the baby was born because she says "2 car seats take up too much space". I have looked up all the laws and regulations online and fowarded them to her and she still doesnt get it. How do I tell her she is wrong

My mother will make comments such as 'someone could report you for taking your daughter to work for that evening shift'. (I only took her to work for a 3 months stint in between babysitters.. maybe a total of 10 shifts). I asked a question on here and I had alot of positive repsonses.. and then one where someone said 'that is neglect and abuse' Is it just me, or are people throwing that word around too much? It almost makes you scared to talk about parenting unlesss someone disagrees with your style. When I was a kid there was no car seats. All of the famers left their kids in the house for hours to do chores. So many of our generation were spanked until bruised and scared of our parents. So many things have changed and their are so many rules, I am afraid of breaking one and getting reported because I didn't know about some new 'abuse'. What happened to parenting being common sense?

I answered a question recently asking about being a working mother. I have nothing against working mothers and I know that they are probably trying their best to manage everything. I respect every mother as long as the choices they make are for what they feel is best or needed.

I feel that the ideal situation for a family is to have a mother OR father to stay at home. This may just be my version of an ideal family. Of course the person who is staying at home would have to stay sane and be a good role model but it got me thinking [after I got many thumbs down] that perhaps this isn't what everyone else feels is ideal for a family--not just their own but families in general.

So, I’m asking you [irregardless of your current situation of SAHM or working mother] what do YOU feel is the ideal family lifestyle in general? Thank you for your answer.

Is this to much for a seven year old to do?
i am pregnant now. My duaghter is 7. I am thinking of offerering her $3 to babysit while I swim laps for 45 min to an hour. The pool is one of those ones that are right on the swimming deck with a glass divider about 3 1/2 feet tall. I feel it is safe as I am right there.. but is that too much to ask my daughter to do. She wants to be babysitter when she grows up and loves to earn money. I know she would totally go for it... The viewing area is so close, it is like her watching the baby while I'm making supper in the next room or taking a shower a couple rooms away.. only at the pool, I can see them at all times and hear them. This of course is only once I trust that my daughter has the hang of handling him... but most likely the baby will sleep. I really want to exercise and their dad left.. I have no family in town.

Is it fair that I have to go get the belt or spoon when I get spanked? I got spanked yesterday by my daddy. I lied to my parents, so I think I deserve to get spanked. I just don't think that I should I have had to get the belt yesterday.
