A teenage boy dialed my cell number by accident and my 8 yr. old daughter answered it. He called again a few days later again dialing the wrong number now figuring out that I have a daughter and then sent a text that was basically a rape threat aimed at my daughter. I got a call from the cops after filing a report to blow it off as a one time thing and let it go and I don't want to let it go!

When we take something away from my 14 month old daughter, she will start to scream, stomp away, plant her head on the floor and follow it with the rest of her body, kicking and screaming the whole way. What is the best way to deal with this temper tantrum? Is putting her in a time out a reasonable thing at this young age? If so, how long would you try it for, considering her age and attention span?

Do you feel like no matter how hard you try, you cannot make your teenager happy, and nothing you do is right? I just want to know if this is normal? Do you always argue with your teenager about everything?

I only speak my mother tongue with my 13 mos old (I want her to learn that language so she can communicate with her grandparents and other close relatives in my country). Everybody tells me she will pick up English through TV and when she starts pre-school, but I am so scared she would be left out when she is around other kids. Any suggestions?

I started a new job about 4 months ago. My 18 month old son has been sick off and on for a month now (and is home sick again today). How do you balance the time off and giving your all when you are there? I do not want my employer to feel that I am using my child as an excuse to stay home from work.

Having grown up in a household full of books where I was basically allowed to read anything I could read and was interested in (Julius Caesar at age 9, Jane Eyre and Gone With The Wind at age 12), I'm wondering what other people think about this. Did you have your reading restricted as a child? Do you restrict your children's reading? If so/ or not, why do you?

Do you let your child have YOUR ABC gum or any other food from your mouth? I have often seen parents chew food for their small children...then put into their mouths. Do you think this is o.k. to do?

My friend has a 5 month old daughter, and her boyfriend is leaving them both today and going out-of-state because he relapsed on drugs and his family won't assist her. He's taking the only car they had and now she doesn't have a way to drive to work, or pay for rent or any daycare or anything like that. How can she get assistance with those?

I am not a parent myself but coming from the last generation to get spanked. As an observation a couple gernerations down from me are millions of kids who do not obey their parents and get everything they want. I see tantrums in Wal-Mart, I have watched my peers attack eachother in schools, I have even been present at school when one pulled a gun. My girlfriend babysits for the child of some rich parents that never discipline their child and she always aims for what she wants, which causes problems since my girlfriend won't put up with it.

Anyway, to the point. Now no one is allowed to spank their kids and Dr. Spock sais it will destroy their fragile personalities... Dr. Spocks son committed suicide. Their is no form of logical discipline and touching your kid in public will get them taken away.

Personally I think that this generation is out of control. I'm not saying we should rule them since "Autocracy breeds rebellion".

My son has just started high school and im slightly concerned that if he does not get a bit more confident he may be bullied.
He is a very kind child and excells in school and has a few close friends.
Any ideas to make him a bit more outgoing and more confident would really be apreciated.

My fiancee has a 3 year old daughter, which he and I care for. For a while I have always felt that she may not be his daughter, and for a moment he thought the same thing too. But he says, he doesnt want to take one b/c he doesnt want to know. Recently, I have been wanting him to take one. I know if she turns out not to be his, he will be devastated. He loves her a lot. Am I being selfish for wanting to pursue the paternity testing? Or should I just leave it alone and be satisified with him wanting to be her father?

Is it a good idea to get remarried or back together with your ex? I mean, you got divorced for a reason right? They say its for the kids, but all they do is yell at eachother and fight all the time (even now). Got divorced 4 years ago, kids are really young (one born just before the divorce). Stupid idea right?

I am trying to poll and see how the "talk" relates to sex for the first time. I want to know how old you were when you first had sex and did your parents have the "talk" or did you have to figure it out on your own? Also how old when the parents had the "talk" with you. Just trying to see if there's any coalation here.

My daughter is 12, she is exceptionally bright, and will be starting 8th grade in the fall instead of 7th. Even though she appears to be a happy child, she still enjoys playing with dolls and so on, she is not very sociable and finds group activities that involve other girls difficult. The only activity she enjoys is Girl Scouts but does not actually appear to have any friends. Her school teacher does not think there is anything wrong, but I find it a bit strange that a 12 year old girl does not openly want to have friends and will actually avoid group activities (band, sports). Any advice?
