"You Are My Sunshine". I sing this to them already.
Added after your details: "Forever Young" Rod Stewart...
May the good life be with you down every road you roam,
And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you're far from home.
May you grow to be proud, dignified, and true,
And do unto others as you'd have done to you.
Be courageous and be brave,
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young (Forever young)
Forever young (Forever young)
May good fortune be with you and may your guiding light be strong,
Build a stairway to heaven with a prince or a vagabond
And may you never love in vain,
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young (Forever young)
Forever young (Forever young)
When you finally fly away I'll be hoping that I served you well,
For all the wisdom of a lifetime no one can ever tell,
But whatever road you choose,
I'm right behind you win or lose.
Forever young (Forever young)
Forever young (Forever young)

This is the song that I have sung to all three of my children, just as my mother did to me:
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?
And then I'd be sure to say, "Your dreams really can come true!"

My song to all of my children was "Yes Jesus Loves Me" and they would drift off to sleep every time. I even used to sing "Brandy" the song about the dog to them, of course I changed some of the words to suit the child. You can use any lyric you like and make up your own words. You'll be surprised what you come up with.

That is easy-the mother's song from Dumbo! I can't get through it without crying though:)
Baby mine, don't you cry.
Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
never to part, baby of mine.
Little one, when you play,
pay no heed what they say.
Let your eyes sparkle and shine,
never a tear, baby of mine.
If they knew all about you,
they'd end up loving you, too.
All those same people who scold you,
what they'd give just for the right to hold you.
From your hair down to your toes,
you're not much, goodness knows.
But, you're so precious to me,
sweet as can be, baby of mine.
Bette Midler does a wonderful rendition of this song!

Great question! I have a few that make me think of my kids every time and get choked up a bit:
"From this Moment" by Shania Twain
"God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" by N'Sync
"All My Life" by K-Ci and JoJo
"You're the Inspiration" by Chicago
"You'll Always Be My Baby" by Sara Evans

I've never liked traditional lullabies. "Rock-a-Bye Baby" is about an infant falling out of a tree.
With my oldest child, I sing "Your Song" by Elton John to him. We actually have a kind of funny story, I never realized that he took the title personally. One day when he was sick, he asked me to sing him a song. When I asked him what song he wanted me to sing, he said "My song." :-) Later, when we were listening to the Elton John cd in the car, he said "Is this my song." "Yes, this is Your Song." (I quit trying to explain) "I like this song... I can tell everybody this is my song." :-D
With my youngest (he's three), he likes "Beautiful Boy" by John Lennon, and I sing that one to him. He particularly likes it that at the end, it says "Beautiful Sean," which is his first name.
I like both of those songs because they say exactly what I want to with those two children. I've decided when they get married, there's going to be a Mother-Son dance. I'm going to dance to "Your Song" with Cameron, and "Beautiful Boy" with Colin. :-)

My kids both love Georgia On My Mind by Ray Charles. We even put in the CD on repeat of that song very softly as they slept and it got them sleeping through the night very early!
