As a single mom of a 12 year old son, where we live its extremely hot during the summer. To all you moms out there how do you feel about applying sunscreen and protecting your child in the sun?

Even if he is 12 when we go to the beaches, or swimming pools, it will be ME who will be slathering sunscreen on him because I think that If I do it my self, I will feel more satisfied and that my son will be protected much more.

I dont believe that "oh mommy is putting sunscreen on me" becasue its out jobs. I use 1 tablespoon of sunscreen per arm and 2 per leg and 4 for back and front, so I know he is protected.

what do you do to keep your children safe in the sun and at what age?

I have a daughter 7yrs old and a son that is 4 yrs. My problem, I've been divorced over a year and have been playing the role of mom & dad for the past 6 months. I get so tired of having to correct them @home and in public. I just give up sometimes. I try to be consistant but it's hard to do without constantly badgering them. Is this normal? I do punish them but if I punished them for everything they do wrong, my job of parenting is 48 hrs a day. Can someone give me advice on how to do this. It is affecting my family and any other kind of life I may have in the future. I am not doing something right. Time out doesn't even work...help...

My step son is 4 and he is raised by his mother. We get him every other weekend if he is not "sick." Here lately my husband has been working nights and I have to pick his son up. Well when I go to pick him up his mother says I can't let you have him. This past time she said he was crying and if his dad cant be here than you will have to call your mother-in-law. Well when I went in there he was just fine. He does get somewhat upset but its like ne kid when they go to school per say they dont want to go but once their there they are fine. Well here this weekend there has been a few times he is like I want my mommy. I honestlythink someone is putting thoughts in his head about me. Whether it is his grandma or mom or what. He also when we go to take him back he throws a fit saying he doesnt want to go home. If ne one can help me I have soo many questions. Not sure what to do... Thanks

What is this big deal with spanking? I am sick of it. I believe this is why kids act this way. I never remember kids acting like this until these numb brained people took control. What is so abusive about a spanking. I'm not saying spank your child everytime he or she does something wrong. But when needed, what's wrong with it? I never want to have to spank my kids but what else are you supposed to do? Time-out? I would have laughed at it when I was young. I seen a boy and agirl the other day at kmart. hiding from their mother. The mother thought they were kidnapped or something. When she finally found them, she told them not to do it again or they would get timeout when they got home. When I got home I told my mother what happened. I asked what if I would have done that when I was that age. (8-12). She told me that if that was her and I she would have taken me to the restroom, pulled my pants down and turned my butt red. Why don't these parents do this now?

Just curious...
My hubby and I were never away from our daughter for more than a couple hours for her entire first year. Not that it bothered us, we loved it. Shes now almost 2, and shes still not away from us more than a couple or hours, or maybe one night a month.
This seems totally fine to us...
But all our friends are different...
They have family who takes their babies on the weekends, or any time they want to go out, etc. It seems like everyone else gets a sitter at least once a week! As much as our family loves our daughter, they dont have the time to take her that often, and honestly, we wouldnt WANT her to be gone that long. Makes me kinda feel like everyone else gets off easy and has no idea what its like to be a 24/7 parent

Just curious what the experiences of other people are :)

Im am a preschool teacher and a parent, and through my education and experience I see how my classes in child development have improved my parenting skills. I think it should be a requirement to be a parent to complete courses in child development before you have children. I beleieve it would cut neglect and abuse dramatically.

My parents saved for my brother to go to university and he worked all the way through school. I am now going to school as an adult student, single with two kids. I am getting a student loan to cover all of my schooling and living expenses. I will be raising my kids around school and not be working (full time student)... Yet everyone says I need to save for my kids education... why if they get the loans...

I have heard alot lately about Daniel possibly being the father of DannieLynn through paternity results which could be the possibility of why both have recently OD'ed due to the fact.

Do any of these pictures look to you like a mother son relationship or something more? All opinions appreciated?

I don't want a kid, but my wife girlfriend does. I think it's a bad idea, because I see this kid growing up in a world facing destruction. Maniacs are all over the world, and the world is going mad. I personally see the end coming in a couple of years, but that's me. How do I convince her not to have a kid? I am already wishing my parents didn't have me, because I believe we're all dead in a couple of years, and I am facing a lot of danger myself.

My friend is concerned that her husband and his adopted daughter are behaving weird. The other day, this 17 year old came up to her father and was touching his nipples though his shirt. She freaked when her husband just thought this was funny?
She asked me what I thought and it freaked me out too. I don't think this is normal behaviour between a father and daughter. What do you think? This is just strange to me! I think he should have corrected her and why would she feel it was Ok to behave this way in the first place? Am I wrong here?

I cannot believe how stupid some parents can be! I came home from Asda today and followed a car which had at least four children it it jumping rouond like chimps at the zoo. Why were they not buckled in? As a parent and a childminder I cannot think of one good reason why this should happen. Car seats and booster cushions are so readily available why is this still happening. I just hope none of these stupid parents ever have the misfortune of crashing and injuring their little ones.
I have a seven seater just so that everyone who travels with me has the appropriate seat and is seat belted in properly.

What's the best way for enforcing putting a deadbeat on child support? I'm due with my 1st baby in 2 weeks and I plan on putting my sperm donor on child support, but they say they will need his SSN and I don't have it...he's NOT going to give it to me cause he knows what I plan to do. He moves around so much that I don't have a steady address for him. What can I do besides get a lawyer? Anything else they can use besides his SSN?
