i am pregnant now. My duaghter is 7. I am thinking of offerering her $3 to babysit while I swim laps for 45 min to an hour. The pool is one of those ones that are right on the swimming deck with a glass divider about 3 1/2 feet tall. I feel it is safe as I am right there.. but is that too much to ask my daughter to do. She wants to be babysitter when she grows up and loves to earn money. I know she would totally go for it...

he viewing area is so close, it is like her watching the baby while I'm making supper in the next room or taking a shower a couple rooms away.. only at the pool, I can see them at all times

That is a wise and interesting method. I don't think it is too much. It also kind of depends on how old the baby is, but you should try it out one day and see how it goes.

Besure to go over your rules and expectations incase something happens. I started out young when I was around 8 or 9 with my nephew.

This shows that you are supporting her in what she wants to do and it also gives her some experience and credibility. The more expereince the better chances she has with accomplishing her wishes.

I'm kind of torn between this one.
On one hand, you are going to be right there so you could keep an eye on them....
On the other hand, it is a little risky. Stuff can happen withing that time...and seven years old is really young to be watching a child.

If you want to take the risk, no one can stop you, but personally I think that if you are going to do this...you should at least wait until the baby is 1...and your daughter is 8....that is really the youngest I would go, and it would still be risky.

my 5 and 7 year old sisters play outside in the playroom for up to an hour with my 18month and they're all fine, it's amazing what children can do even though they may seem young especially if given half a chance! i think that children are getting more spoilt now and it doesn't give them the opportunity to mature and grow as a person, if you're happy with it and feel safe with it then go for it!

I think it would be okay. Just be sure that she is clear about what is right and wrong when taking care of a child...It also depends on how old the other kid is. I always watched my little sister when I was that age. My mom even left me alone with her, but I wouldn't recommend that.

i would maybe ask one of the other mums if there are any near where your daughter is sitting to just keep an eye open just incase. im sure they would be fine, just let someone know in case of emergency (fire drill or something).
