'm a single mom with a five year old son. It's been two years since I graduated college and I haven't been able to find a job to start me on a career path in that time. In August I got a certificate for teaching English as a second language. (A CELTA, which isn't a whole lot of use in the U.S.) I recently went to Dubai to do some interviews. I had one interviewer tell me he would be willing to hire me as a teacher, but the job wouldn't pay enough for me to come out there with my son. But he did say he would be willing to hire me for only six months so I could get the experience I would need to move on to a better paying job.

I want to take the job, but I am concerned about being away from my son, how it would affect him and our relationship. He would stay with my parents while I did this (we live with them now) so it wouldn't be totally traumatic for him. I was wondering if anyone else had experience leaving a child for a long period like this and what the effects were?

At what age do you think it is ok for a child to have sex? Now what age do you think they would be responsible enough to take care of a child themselves? What age is it ok to have to start taking medications for AIDS. What are we teaching our kids by encouraging them and telling them it is ok to have sex in their early teens? I see it on Y answers all the time. Some little boy or girl will get on here and ask a question about sex, and the replies are encouraging them to continue to have sex. Lets pull up our bootstraps and tell these kids to abstain from sex until they are old enough to deal with the consequences.

okay i'm 13 and and asked some questions to get my parents not to treat me like a little kid. today i sat down and tried to talk with them. there are a lot of things that piss me off like i still have to have a babysitter and they won't let me see any pg-13 movies and i still get punished like my younger brother and sister. they told me i was prepubesent and that was why they still treat me like a kid. I just found out what that means. why do i have to have to have a babysitter and what can i do to not get treated like a kid?

They say that if you have a kid that doesn't talk about feelings, that it is becauses the parent is not approachable.. etc... is this fair?

I just ask because my kid never had a problem with veggies or fruit.. but then i never saw the big deal, it is food. It is part of a meal. I served them with as much expectation as I did with meat and potatoes...

Do you think that parents 'secret' expectations... really carry into reality

My daughter is 5 and I was wondering if she is too old to bathe with a boy her age. If not, what would you think the cut-off age should be?

Ok I will try and give as many details as I can with out making this too long. My husband has 2 kids from a previous mairrage. One of them is a 10 yr old girl. she is failing reading. Has been for the whole term (9wks). She lives with her mother. I think at her age if she is failing its because she is not getting enough or any help from home. Cara(the 10yr old) hates to read and so she will race through a book or just make excuses not to read. She comes here only on weekends and i have her read out loud so she can get the reading in she needs. Her mother doesnt seem to care. She is one of those parents that keeps her kids cause it makes her look good to others but i dont think she cares much for them. We tried to get custody 6 months ago and it took social workers 6 mos to evaluate her and by then she had cleaned up her act and told us now she looks good so there was nothing we could do to win them over. I need help How do we get these kids to do better when there mom wont

My son is making me so mad these days, he is so lazy, it's a fight to make him do his chores, I'm getting so angry and of course, I hear myself using the guilt tactics my mother used to use on me, and I don't want to do this,(that's fine, I'll just do it all myself, etc)
I know there are worst things he could be doing, but, this and his mouth are really getting to me, and his room....don't get me started, just need some parental empathy...:(

a spanking and it was emotional but it worked right away? my girl was misbehaving all week and im a firm believer in spanking my kids over my knee bare bottom with my hand but i never go overboard so i gave her so many warnings she never obeyed me she was flat out disrespectful and she's in the 1st grade so i decided enough is enough i gave her a long talk about respect and pulled her pants and underwear down and gave her 5 swats on the butt what do you do when you spank and has any of you spanked your kid in public or in front of your friends please only parents thank you

i am a mother of 4 boys ages now are 18 he has graduated and moved out on his own...then i have a 16 yr old son soon to be 17 then i have a 14 yr old son soon to be 15 then a 13 yr old son soon to be 14.

my ex left us back in nov 1996 i had the children in my custody ever since....when he left i told him i was keeping custody of the boys so he told me fine and then i said about going for child support he told me if i did that then he would give up all his rights to the boys i didnt know the law so i thought he could then so i said fine cause i didnt want to be the blame for him not being in his kids life so i asked him what he could afford he said 50 aweek so he paid that when he did for 1/2 yrs till may 2006 i sued him for child support then he turned around and sued me for full custody ....none of our sons wants to live with him .

he left his 2nd wife back in 2004 she was 5 months pregnant and they also have a 2 yr old son at that time .he went to a bar and never went home ...he left her for his new gf.

well they live in a 3 bedroom well the gf has a son and a daughter the son is 10 the little girl is 6 they sleep in the same room the other women is a stranger she is handicapped living in the 3rd bedroom he has no rooms for my sons they sleep on the floor and couches .

i have to go by the custody agreement made from 1997 when he left ,the kids were toddlers they do not want this set up no more .
i have legal services tellin me i can not change this arrangement cause he is sueing me for full custody.

well we went to a modified hearing we were both ordered to pay 1050 i paid he didnt he asked the judge to give him 6 months to come up with it which will take us to april 2007 ..since then he had moved from his 2 bedroom in new phila .to a three bedroom four blocks from where we live the boys asked me to do something about the visitation they only want to see him now on a saturday from like 9 to 6pm .

i am being told by alot of ppl the kids will get to talk to the judge for my ex is telling the boys he has already won and they will be living with him and they have no choice?

My ex-wife is of the opinion that she should have two "homes" rather than "home" and "mommy's house." I'm of the opinion that a child should have one place to call home . . . that it provides an anchor, a sense of stability. Who's right here? I don't want to take anything from my ex, and I want to be sure I'm not being selfish here, but I really feel like my daughter's interests are best served by having one place to call "home."

Okay. All the people that insulted me on the last board don't bother to post. I was all for smacking your kids. I was raised being not just smacked having my *** beat. The only smacking I would ever do to my child was a few smacks on the hand. I am hearing my step mom ***** about it and even though I hate her I am considering what she said. I would like to here both sides and no insults and saying "it's abuse" because it is not.

My sons are 7 and 8, are they too young to have chores? Should I give them an allowance for doing chores? I also need ideas for chores they can do... we have a housekeeper and a gardener, but I'd like them to teach them responsibility and I think assigning chores would be good for them...

Should these families who have overweight children be referred to Child Protective Services? I think it is very sad that parents allow their children to gain excess amount of weight and I believe these parents should be held accountable for neglecting the overall health of their children.
