I think it is fine... but take the time to go over his homework with him to make sure that he is not just rushing through it so that he can play.

It is completely normal. As long as they have done there homework and are still doing good in school. Now the kid may get obsessed and spend most of there time playing games. That is normal but it is good for the parent to give them a time limit. Like an hour or two a day. That way they can be active in other things as well.

It is normal, but maybe you should ask yourself if there is something better that your child can do. We have all the latest technologies in out home, and yet our children play less than most children I know (probably because they are very active in sports and activities) during the week we do not have video game privileges and at 10 and 12 they do not ask any more nor do they really have time. On the weekends, after the reading is done..they are free to do what ever they want..this includes video games and being just like any other kid

Yes, why not?? I mean, he has finished what is necessary.

But, if your question is really about the video game, whether it is a good thing to play or should he play other things, then there is no real answer.

It all depends on the following:
- what type of game he is playing? Personally, I would discourage those gruesome or hideous types involving killings, blood & gore, evil creatures. Sometimes, these games have subliminal effect and can affect your kid psychologically, making him more aggresive, moody, etc.

- when he is playing it? just before bed? or in the afternoon? not good to play games which causes high adrenalin rushes before bed. best to play those which are 'more gentle in nature. Then he will have a better night's rest.

- does he/she have other games to play? Perhaps a nice card or board game with you. Good for bonding!

- do you allow him to watch TV? Well, here another set of factors to consider, namely what type of shows is he/she allowed to watch, what time until is he allowed to watch, etc etc.

All the best to you! Parenting is one heckuva journey in learning (and un-learning!)

video games are fine as long as the homework is done.Monitor which games they are playing. Some are very entertaining but others like Grand theft auto are inappropriate for young kids. When renting games the store wll tell you about game ratings.Ensure time is also set aside for other activities.

Yes, but only for an hour, two tops. And the kid needs to show his/her homework to the parents for them to look over.
