From a legal standpoint yes, they can. They are your legal guardians after all. Whether or not the manager actually takes the suggestion is up to them. They don't have to cut back your hours. My parents did the same thing when I was your age and my manager just asked me if I wanted reduced hours. I said no and that was the end of that. Good luck, though.

Yes a 16 year old parents CAN call where you work and tell the manager to cut back your hours. At 16 your PARENTS are responsible for you, not yourself not your boss and they have the right to determine how many hours a week you work. Until you are 18 or are emancipated and are living under their roof they hold all of the cards.
As far as Ben Quicks claim of being able to work as many hours as you want at 17...not true. The federal law states that no one under 18 can be hired on a full time bases ESPECIALLY if they are still in school. Been there done that Some employers (Like Wal*Mart) try to get around it by working their employees on split shifts. Which is WHY Wal*Mart is having problems right now in court.

Yes, as your parent and legal gardian they do have the right to do that. They also have the right to assist in terminating your employment (force you to quit) if the company does not comply. As a sixteen yr old you still have to listen to your parents above and beyond an employer and if they feel you are working to many hours then they can and do have the right to do something about it. Also, if you are working hours above the legal limit for your age in your state.. your parents can file a suit against the company you work for if they do not reduce those hours to be compliant.

Yeah, even though the parent(s) are 16, they are still considered a minor. So it is legal and possible for hours to be cut back at that age.

Yes, But know this. It is a little off the subject but when you turn 17 and you are still inrolled in school you can do what ever you want (including work as much as you want), they can't hit you, they can't kick you out, and you are technicly an adult. They can only control what you do for the few minutes that you are on there property, but you can come and go as you please. So here's to the future.......CHEERS!

Im not sure about where you livr but in MO. We Are Legaly Adults at 17

yes...your parents can even have them let you go or give you a leave of absence. Companies dont want to mess with parents when most of its employees are 16 yo.

Why do they want to call your work and cut your hours?

Yes it is possible because (not "cuz") at 16 you are still a minor, and your parents have every right to do whatever they please until you are 18. Just 2 more years. You can make it.

Yes she can do that. Try not to lash out at your mother, i'm pretty sure she doesn't hate you. Try asking her, Mom, why does it seem to me that you hate me? You might be surprized at her response. Tell her you are a good kid and her yelling hurts your feelings.

each state has certain laws and you are only allowed to work so many each week.
try talking to your mother as an adult (not getting mad or upset) but rational_even though thats probably the last thing you want ot do right now.
