be honest tell her the whole story then take her to the doctors and see if you can set up a time to show her around the operatining room or what have you. tell her she will feel no pain and you will be there when she gets up and try to ease her mind about it maybe promise to do something special for her when she come out of recovery

it's kinda of hard to answer this question with out knowing the childs age. If she is older explain to her that she needs the surgery. My daughter had surgery at 4 and we explained to her that she had a boo boo that the doctor needed to take out. Of course it was hurting her so she understood that. We also told her in order for the dr. to do this we would go to the hossy and the dr. would make her go nighty night..
