There's no reason to bribe him. Tell him he'll do it or be punished. After a couple times of punishment, he'll get the point to do it. Stop being such a wimp and discipline your kid.

I was doing my own dishes and other chores in elementary school. It's sad when a 14 year old is too lazy to wash the dishes, and then the parent doesn't know how to make him wash the dishes.

Try letting him eat off the dishes he don't want to wash...If that don't work Put all the dirty dishes in his room and see how long he can take that!

Play the exact mind game with him. Try not use any of dishes your self for at least a 3 days or more and watch the dishes pile in the sink. When he realized that there are no clean dishes, that may put something on his mind.

My son (13) responds really well to taking things away, video games, guitars, etc...

He washes his own school clothes though, but I agree I have a hard time w/ the dishes.

Um, TELL him to wash his dishes? Who's the parent here? My son turned 15 last week, and he's even been doing his own laundry since he was 11. He does his dishes, he cleans his room, he takes out the trash. I don't even have to tell him to do those things anymore.

If he is 14 and still doesn't wash his dirty dishes, you should have started disciplining him earlier. The fix now, umm either spank his butt (no he isn't too old) or take his priviliges away (going out with his friends etc.)

Don't do it for him (even if it takes days or even weeks), and don't allow him to have privileges such as TV, phone, going out with friends, etc. until he does his dishes. If he's really stubborn, it may take a while, but don't give in or he will have won. Once he does it regularly you can offer him an allowance for keeping on top of his chores.

Explain to him the reasons that you want him to wash the dishes -- give him an opportunity to figure out that he should do them, before you make it a mandatory and punishing chore.

Uhhhhh lets see? HHmmmmmm? Maybe you should tell him to wash his dishes. If he doesnt, take things away from him. Like the computer, video games, friends, going out. Be the parent and stand up for yourself.
