I have stepchildren living with me that were all sweetness and light before they moved in. To my horror I found out their mother *never* disciplined them in any way at home. They are 10 girl/14-boy. Their father’s only here when they’re asleep. He works over 100 hrs per week, refuses family counseling and discipline of *any* kind towards the boy, little towards the girl. The're usually ignore me when I ask them the simplest of questions or give smart backtalk to every word I say: Am I supposed to still try and do weekend activities with them and stuff? People say stepparents are never to discipline. Does this mean I have to subject myself to taking them on entertaining activities or letting them use fun things at home and give them my time and attention when they are acting so hostile towards me? Also, today the last straw was when the 10 year old punched me in the leg (frustrated she lost a card game we were playing). Should I just take them out for treats? I feel so guilty!

I am looking for yes or no answers. In the case of child abuse there is no gray area, you can't say, "Well it was a little abusive."

If need be apply it to yourself, is anyone ever justified in hitting you hard enough to draw blood? Or think of it this way you have a small person mouthing off to a person three or four times his size. Is it okay for that large person to hit and draw blood on the small person? Try it from a differnt angle, a mouthy woman, is it alright for her husband to hit her hard enough to draw blood?

So.....a man gets angry at a mouthy child, hits him hard enough to draw blood. It is child abuse?

My boyfriend wants his son to move in with us, but there is NO WAY I will allow this. My relationship with boy, 12, is not good.My BF thinks everything would be great if the kid moved in, but I know it would not. My BF has a tendency to ignore problems, thinking that will make them go away. The kid has emotional, learning and behavoiral problems, and is VERY VERY selfish AND lazy.He has gotten physically agressive with me (shoving), his mom (swung at her), and kids at school(fights). Emotionally, and academically, he is at the level of a 7 or 8 year old.He is also very big for his age. The mom is has pretty much given up and lets him do what he wants because he is physically stronger than her and she cannot stop him. He goes to therapy on and off. My BF says I am wrong not to let him move in, and that it is MY fault he has problems because I am stopping him from helping his son. Then he said it might his own fault for living somewhere that his son cannot move into.

I do not ascribe to ANY organized religion. But remain open-minded/respectful to all of them. My 11 yr old stepdaughter is Muslim and from another country. She/ her brothers moved in with us (brothers are 18+ Yrs Old ). All are judgemental of American culture, other religions, people who drink, etc. The other day SD saw a calander w/the holiday Hanukkah on it and asked is school out. I said “I don’t think so. Still, it's an important Jewish Holiday a…” right then she abruptly cut me off and barked “I don’t want to know what THEIR holiday is about!” Another time I see a 6ft tall, pink Christmas tree. She loves pink and drew Christmas trees at school once. I said “Wow look at this tree ___! Isn’t it…”again I was cut off as she snapped, “I don’t like anything to do with Christmas so, I don't need to look at it." Husband says he doesn't care what she says to "non-muslims" including me. Blatant intolerance of others religions/cultures I find revolting & her nasty tone w/me--not OK. Ideas?

I broke up with my boyfriend because I found out that he was addicted to crystal meth. Then I found out that I was pregnant. I never told him because I don't want a father like that in my baby's life. Did I do the right thing or does he have a right to know?

It has been almost six months now. He always fight with me and his brother, sometimes hurting us physically. Would'nt allow me to talk to him about any problems that might be troubling him. He is different now from the caring and quiet son he used to be. He's 17.

If you don't let your kids play "Mature"-rated video games at all, why would you let them use MySpace? Social networking sites are far more dangerous to kids and teens than violent video games, in my opinion.

Last night I took my 4 year old and 2 year old to our city's tree lighting. We were on the hay ride with a bunch of children. All they were saying is f this and f that, I nicely told that there were little children on the ride and to please stop. The girl looks at me called me some names and laughed at me.
Than as my son was getting up the teenager who was only 11 pushed him down. My mom was getting my daughter off the ride and the girl who was calling me names pushes my daughter down and if it wasen't for my father being down at the end to help her off she would of fell off the ride.
Where I am going at is why do parent;s give children so much freedom?
If I ever acted that way I would of got smacked right than and there. Where is the discipline in children now a days? It seems like I am the only one that wants my children to grow up with respect and manners.

I am a single teen mother. My daughter is 5 months old. her father want nothing to do with her. We split up when I was five months pregnant. We were only engaged, never married. We already went to court for child support, all he is ordered to pay is $50/month. I want him to come see her but he doesnt want to, he never responds to my messages. Can I take him to court for this? like make the judge giv him visitation dates. Or does that just work only if the other parent is willing to visit on his or her own? PLease i really need to know and quick!

My neighbors live right below me and the walls are quite thin, so I hear some of what goes on. Everynight and morning, their baby children cry, yell, scream, and cry some more uncontrollably. They do this continuously for hours at a time. The thing is, I don't hear the parents doing anything, in fact it seems like the parents are not even there by what I hear. I don't know if this is normal. It's really bothering me when I can't sleep, but it also really bothers me because it may be abuse. Any ideas on how to either give a subtle hint or what agency to call (?)...
