I only USED to spank with my hand - read my other post to you. I think thta spanking with an object is assault. If anyone else other than you hit your child with an object, you could prosecute them. So why would you do it to your own child? Using an object is only meant to make it more painful - just think about how that sounds.

When I was a kid, I mostly got my hair pulled, or slapped around my face by Mom's hand. One time, my Mom hit me so hard, my barrette went thru the skin of my head, and there was blood in my almost white, blond hair. My teacher reported my Mom for abuse. (And this was a LOT of years ago, when spanking was accepted.)
Once, I got spanked with a razor strap. It was awful. Never, ever hit a child with a strap, or a belt, or a paddle, or wooden spoon, or anything like that!
Nowadays, you're not supposed to spank kids at all. They can call the authorities, and you can get into a lot of trouble.
Time outs, grounding them, - either from going outside, or from watching TV or playing video games, etc - making them clean their room if they're old enough. These are accepted. But no physical punishment.
When a kid is little, a time out for a few minutes is good. Then, when you and the child are both calmer, talk with him/her about why you think their actions were not good.

I got spanked with close to everything. I was really rebellious and spoiled as a young kid, and if everything wasn't going my way, I'd do whatever it took to make things go my way. I didn't care if it meant getting spanked for it. I was gonna do what I wanted to. From what I remember, this is it...

If I ever have kids, I would never spank them. I believe more in just talking to a kid, teaching them a lesson. As well as being rebellious and hard to deal with, I was also really sensitive and the spanking did nothing but hurt and confuse me. If I had a kid, I could never cause that much pain to them.

My brother made the mistake of making a paddle in shop class and bringing it home. My mom wrote the word "Buttwarmer" across it. I was lucky enough to never get it used on me, but he and my other brother sure have memories from it. My mom found it recently and gave it back to him to use on his kids. Me and my husband simple choose the slap on the hand method or a time out in his room. My little boy isnt really old enough to get spanked yet but when he is, that will be daddy's department! If he does get spanked, he has a padded butt so it doesnt hurt him or anything. He recently started laughing at us when we correct him so maybe hes growing up already and out will come the "big guns"! But a good 10 minutes in his room seems to get the point across to him pretty good.

I was spanked with hand and belt, but not on bare bottom. I currently have not spanked my child, as she's only five months old, but should the need arise, I would probably use my hand, or maybe a wooden spoon or something. I don't think I'd use a belt, and I will not spank out of anger. It will be a set punishment given out after the heat of the moment has passed, and it will only be for certain infractions, such as life threatening behaviors (running out into traffic, and the like).

Spanking in my family was limited to an arm pulled up and a swat on the butt. It was a way to get our attention and focus on the moment. Wasn't painful just an adjustment.
I think it teaches kids to respect other people and to STFU. Yes I would so it in a heartbeat if it was warrented

I didn't get spanked if i did it would be with a hand on the butt. I mostly got soap in my mouth. Now with my daughter i spank her little butt but she has a diaper on so she don't feel much or i put her in time out.

I never got a spanking or a whipping. I got beat downs. I was hit with umbrellas, extention cords, belts, shoes, slippers, house shoes, fly swatters, her fist, slapped, a HUGE wooden spoon, a spatula, an ice cream cone once but only because she didn't have to reach for it. It was already in her hands. She's calm now. I have to tell my mom about this answer. She's gonna love it!!!

the wooden spoon stands out in my mind, as well as the hand.
I do not believe on using objects to hit people with, no matter what the age. That's a sick way to try and assume control, especially on someone younger, smaller, and dependant.
I have a child and will not spank him. If I can't find another way to assume control of the situation without striking, then I am a poor parent.

I can't ever remember getting spanked. Instead, I had to stand up with my arms straight up into the air (I once stood like that for an hour) and that definitely exhausted my arms. I had to do that whenever I fought with my bro... and well, let's just say that I avoided fighitng my bro after my arms felt like they were going to fall off. lol
