Well, i am not sure i would let a three year old load the dishwasher. there are lots of things that they can hurt themselves on and tons of things they can break. but if they want to help you, then just let them put things on the bottom rack and then only things that don't break and make sure you do not leave them unattended. I have a two year old and i know how she is with dishes, so just be careful. :))

I wouldn't let my 3 year old child load the dishwasher unless I was right there with them. And if I did let them put dishes in it would be their own cups, plates etc. That way if they did drop them they would be less likely to break.
Be sure to make it very clear that they cannot load the dishwasher unless you are helping them. They could hurt themselves.

You dont. Simply put. What do you want a little work horse? He may load it half way put all the dishes in rong break some of them and how is he suppose to get the dishes off of the counter and into the dishwasher? Plus there are knives and such..do you want your baby playing with knives?

well, the proper way to teach a 3 yr old to load the dishwasher so you can watch tv is to put a shock collar on them and when they do something wrong, BUZZZZZZZ. if they dont scrub the toilet to your standards, BUZZZZZZ. cant sort out the colors and whites when loading the washing machine, BUZZZZZZZZ. forgot to replace the plug in the oil pan of your rusted out station wagon when changing the oil, BUZZZZZZZZZ. they need to respect the fact that you are a lazy, fat-@$$, piece of crap parent and you dont want to be bothered with taking care of them. kids today are so demanding!!!!!!!!! my advice is to sell them for spare parts. good luck.

YOU DON'T! HE OR SHE IS ONLY 3. DID YOU HAVE TO LOAD THE DISHWASHER WHEN YOU WERE 3? I DOUBT IT. BESIDES WHAT IF THEY DROPPED A GLASS PLATE OR GLASS-GLASS AND TRIED TO PICK IT UP? THE SAME THING THAT WOULD HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOU TRIED TO PICK IT UP. YOU RUN THE RISK OF CUTTING YOURSELF. I THINK YOU NEED TO LOAD IT YOURSELF FOR NOW. I DIDN'T START DOING DISHES TILL I WAS 10. WOW ARE YOU THAT LAZY TO LOAD A DISH WASHER?????????

I just have my son put his plate next to the sink so I can rinse or scrape the food in the trash. I also bought Correlle dishes that supposedly won't break. My son did break one putting it in the sink and they replaced it for me. I woulnd't want him handling knives or glasses though.
Everyone is so upset that you're going to watch tv while you kid does a chore- the horror!!

Quietly....You don't want to be distracted by the sound of breaking dishes when your watching the game , RIGHT ??? The BEST way would be to get a WOMAN to teach them for you ....After all , It IS women's work , Ya know ???

You're crazy. Get off your duff and do it yourself.
Now, my 3 1/2 year old loves to put the spoons away (no knives or forks people!!) so I let her. She gets mad if she doesn't get to help, so I let her. I keep an eye on her though.
