I've had him for about 3 weeks and I've changed his water... kept his tank clean and everything recommended. But now he is acting wierd. He "sleeps" under some gravel at the bottom of his tank, a lot. And he doesnt move around like normal. He bolts wherever he goes. He'll go really fast for a real short period for about 15 seconds then he'll just continue to "sleep". I had a ghost shrimp in there with him and it died. As soon as i noticed the dead shrimp I removed it as soon as possible. Anybody know why he would act like so?

I have a beta in a five gallon filtered tank. I have noticed some really tiny, thin strands floating about in the water, not a lot, just three to five that I have seen at a given time. They are really thin and translucent, but they don't seem to move on their own, yet I'm not really sure. They are swept away by the current of the filtered water dropping from above. My beta seems fine: he eats; he flares up all the time; his gills seem fine; I don't see any of the little strands on his body. I just want to make sure it's not some sort of parasite. I have bought the fizzling tablets for the parasites (Parasite Clear) but haven't used them; I just bought in case they were parasites. If they are, and I need to use them, do you know if I drop the dosage right in the thank with the fish?

P.S. I had three balloon mollies previously in that tank, but they passed. I did change the water, but didn't vacuum the gravel. Could the strands be left over mollies poop?

ok I have a 15 gal tank, and i have 3 adult mollies and about 13-14 2-3month old baby mollies, and 2 neon tetra's (i had 3 but 1 died a few days ago, but planning to buy 1 more), and 1 Pleco whos grown to be about 4.5inchs...
I was wondering, if a Corydora(bottom feeder) would be good in my tank?? I was told to get 3 because they like to be in groups..

This happens more after he's just done a rapid swim or was blowing up at the betta next to him. It seems like it's getting worse. After he rests for a bit he's back to normal until the next time. Is it gill disease?

I have him in a 1/2 gallon tank with not filter or anything. I use Poland Spring water only with water conditioner.

Any ideas?

Hi all, I have looked around a little bit for a solution to this, but I haven't really found the answer I am looking for. The other day, when I took the lid off my small Betta bowl (abt 1/2 gal) that sits on my desk at work, and poured the food in for the bettas, the male, a bit excited about the food, jumped up, overshot and landed out of the bowl and on my desk. I was able to immediately get him back in the water, but now, 3 days later, he is struggling to get to the bottom of the tiny tank, and gives up and floats back to the top. He occasionally rolls to his side as he floats on the top. I read that this could be a swim bladder rupture. Some people are saying a fish can "live through it and live on"... but I guess I am wondering if it is an incredibly painful, stressful life. I just changed his water and gave him a pea few minutes ago incase it isn't rupture, but would it be better for him if I just ended it for him now. Anyone who knows fish physio would be best! Thanks!

What is a good filter for my 38 gallon fish tank?

The tank came with Tetra Whisper 30 but i didn't like it because of the biobag.

Then I bought a Millieum 3000 wet/dry filter, which is doing ok.

But I was thinking of buying a Bio Filter because I heard they do alot of good cleaning.

And also any suggestions for types of Bio Filters i might want?

my heater goes from 68 to 89 degrees but those are the only numbers so i set it in the middle and i felt it and it was VERY hott. is that normal? should it be that hott? should i put the heater in a corner or where? im getting tired of trying to get it right.. and im not going to go buy a new heater when i have a perfectly good one right here so please dont tell me to "invest in buying one" cause thats getting annoying, sorry but it is ; ) here a link to the kind of heater i have. if you could tell me what i need to set it on would be nice too!

I want to get five mollies, tetras, or guppies. The five would be in a ten gallon tank. Is this the right tank size, should it be smaller or bigger. Also, could I put one male Betta with either of these breeds of fish?

I need to know all the types of fancy tailed guppies, and possible images. I already know what the yellow snakeskin guppy looks like.

Also, I would like to know what types you breed to get other types.

What types will get me more money?

How much should I sell the guppies for (the ones I dont want-the puure-breed ones) I live in the N.E. USA area.(PA)

Please inform me of any other info that may be similar.

Please inform me of any links you may have used.

*I will be choosing a best answer.

*Please, I only want real answers, no silly stuff.

Thank you!

My brother has recently won a fish at a town party type thing. We have no clue what it is, or what it eats. For the most part, it is gold, with blackish fins. It's alittle white at the bottom, and about as big as a thumb. We have a food that says it is for goldfish and other types, but it doens't seem to be eating it. It also swims to the top of the tank and puts it's head near the top and open and closes it's mouth, probably to breath better. We have had it for three days now.

Really! I've had this fair-prize goldfish for 3 years (a record!) and she's stayed in the same tank she came with for all those years! Does she get bored? She get's to eat, and then just kinda' swim a little and then blow some bubbles! Wouldn't you be bored?

I am a fish keeping enthu. Started keeping my 1st fish when i was 7 yrs old and started appreciating them since then, i felt so relaxing and calm everytime i look at them. But i hardly find one among my friends in my age group who are so interested in fishes or into fish keeping. Iam 23 this year. What do you guys think? Is fish keeping an art or just a hobby?
