because my heater is confusing and idk.

my heater goes from 68 to 89 degrees but those are the only numbers so i set it in the middle and i felt it and it was VERY hott. is that normal? should it be that hott? should i put the heater in a corner or where? im getting tired of trying to get it right.. and im not going to go buy a new heater when i have a perfectly good one right here so please dont tell me to "invest in buying one" cause thats getting annoying, sorry but it is ; ) here a link to the kind of heater i have. if you could tell me what i need to set it on would be nice too!

carp such as goldfish and koi don't require a heater and plecostomases(pleco(alge eater) can live with a heater or without. Also if you do want to use the heater it should only be set ftom 74 to 78 degees.

another thing if you still think your water is to hot I sugest that you buy an aquarium thermometer and make sure the temp is where I stated for tropical fish.

one last thing is for goldfish and koi the water should be from 68 to 70 degrees.

I always place my heater on the back side of the tank.A goldfish requires no heater, but most saltwater fish requires a heater. Some require a heater to be set at 95 degrees and it just according to the type of fish you have in the tank.A heater that doesn't stay the same temps, your fish will get wht is called ICK.

You need to get a thermometer of some kind.I have a heater that registers much higher than the actual temperature. You just have to moniter it occasionally so you know how to guage it. Fish that don't need heat: Goldfish, Fantails, Orandas, Bettas, Shubunkins, Koi, and Rosy Red Minnows just to name a few. Obviously you need to keep the aquarium's surrounding at room temperature.

Actually, bettas thrive the best when they have a heater. They should be in a water temp of around 72-75 degrees.

water temperature is relative to most people. i grew up in florida and tepid water to me is about 84 degrees. my aquarium feels a litte cool to me. other people have no problems with 55 degree water so its really hard to gage water temperature by feel.

think about investing in a thermometer to measure the water temperature and not relying on the numbers on the heater. while you paid a lot for the heater they seldom heat to the temperature on it.

to answer your question on fish -- white cloud minnows, bittterlings, mosquito fish, zebra danios, and goldfish. are some that dont' need heat
