I have a 3ft tank it has gravel and plants in it at the momment but i am thinking of revoming the gravel for good, just keeping a bare tank with a pump heater and air stone, And a few bushy plants, I want to keep it bare so it will be easyer to keep clean because it will be slightly overstocked (And would it be ok to do a 10% water change everyday or is this too much, What do you suggest), It wont be a display/show tank it is just for rearing guppies in So would it be ok or do fish need gravel?

I've heard of overcrowding a tank so that the fish will not be territorial but Id like to know how many fish I should put into the tank and what to do and look out for when trying to accomplish this.

i have a blood parrot cichlid. I've noticed that he keeps sitting on the ground underneath one of the live plants that I have in the tank. Is this normal behavior for these fish, or is he dying?

A coworker of mine just bought a betta fish in a small fish bowl to keep on her desk at work. It's pretty cute, and of course now I want one, but I've been doing some research and it looks like that any fish will need at least 2 gallons for them to live humanely, and I think 2 gallons may be too big for my desk. Is this true? Are there any possible alternatives? I checked out the store today and saw a 1 gallon tank that could fit on my desk. I also saw some snails. Could I put a betta in the 1 gallon with a snail for company? Would that be enough room? What about just having only snails in there as pets, like 2 or so? How much water do snails need? I also saw some small water frogs there, too.

Basically the question is, what can I put in a 1 gallon tank that will be happy?

My black molly seems to shy away from the lighting and stay near the bottom when turn it on. When I turn it off he comes up to the top. I have two guppys who dont care that much about the light, but when it's on they seem to be more happy and they swim around more. I dont want to seperate my fish and I have only one tank setup. Any advice on how to meet everyones needs? Like..how many hours of light or so? Thanks.

in my house we have a large tank with lots of differnt species of goldfish in. anyway they had a little tiny baby and we took him out of the big tank and put it in a small tank. he has grown loads over the last 6 months but he has developed wonky swimming. We dont know if this is a difformity because there are lots os differnt species or if its his swim bladder.
Any way the symptoms are that he can swim down to the bottom but his tail end floats so he has to put lots of effet in.
I read that you have to feed them peas but i really dont want to kill him since we rescued him and raised him since he was really really small. We dont have water testing kits and he is still to small to go into the big tank. we fed him on flake food which he seems to enjoy. we clean the small tank every week and we change all the water. when cleaning him out we leave a bowl of clean tap water for atleast 24 hours. I really dont know what this could be any deatils or help you could give would be very useful.
