i have a blood parrot cichlid. I've noticed that he keeps sitting on the ground underneath one of the live plants that I have in the tank. Is this normal behavior for these fish, or is he dying?

If hes new to the tank he's just adjusting to his new environment and will be up and swimming around much more in the next few days. As the previous answer says tough some times they can be a bit shy and keep in a somewhat hidden spot as well. If that's the case additional hiding places will make him more comfortable and more willing to come out and swim around more.

These guys can be a little shy, hiding is not unusual - however anytime you notice a fish laying on the ground you want to make sure they're not sick. Test the water and look for signs for disease - if these all comes up positive you've just got a shy fellow on your hands! :)

Im sorry but he's gonna die. You should check the tempature, the ammonia level, and if your filter is doing good. How big is your aquarium?
