I have a betta fish in a 2.5g tank. Though I know it's not strictly necessary for betta, I added an air pump. He seems to like it (more active, better color), but it gives just enough movement at the surface that he can't make a bubble nest. Is that OK for him?

Additionally, the temperature fluctuation is fairly high between day and night, especially since my A/C doesn't work very effectively. I've considered a small water heater but am not sure if there's one that will work for such a small tank, yet won't overheat during the day when it's warmer. Ideas? A larger tank is not possible, my tank's on an office counter and is the largest I can have in this space.

Finally, are there any small fish (or snail/shrimp/whatever) that would get along well with the Betta in the same type environment that I could add one/two of without overpopulating?

hi. i have a 10 gallon tank. in the tank i keep 4 fish. the fish are: 1 jewel cichlid, 1 parrot, 1 texas cichlid, and 1 jack dempsy. i had the tank for about 6 months and during those months my fish were friendly and go along like family. sadly, nowadays my fish have been killing each other.
my guess is that i need a bigger tank. what do you (whoever answers this question) think i should do?

i asked a question a few days ago and i got some good answers i just want to be completely sure though.
i bought a stand from my local pet store and they guy said it would be fine for my 29 gallon glass fish tank. its iron and its really sturdy, but it only supports the edges and the 4 corners of my tank with nothing holding the bottom except for on the edges and corners. the answers i got before said it would be fine if its a glass tank. i just need to make sure. does anyone out there have the same kind of stand on a tank that size or bigger?

please help i want to make sure it will hold it before i get a lot of water on my floor.lol

i just want to make sure that the tank will not get stressed and leak from just having support on the edges and corners.

it is iron and supports all of the edges and corners but not the underneath of it.

thanks a lot you guys

I have a telescope/globe/dragon eye (which ever one you like to call it) goldfish. I always thought that mine has a double tail fin. But it ended up that he only has one...I'm not sure what kind of fin type this is. It is like a upside-down triangle and always flat when he swins or just drags down when he stops moving. I always thought that maybe when it grows up (since its only 2.5 inches and I've only had it for about a week) the fin will turn out like those butterfly tail types. Does anyone have this kind of tail type with their fancy goldfish? Don't get me wrong, he is my baby, just curious if there are actually other tails like his.

I have been with my girlfriend for almost three months. It's been amazing, her parents approve, and so do mine. We see each other just about everyday.

There's one problem. Her best friend HATES me. I believe shes mad because since me and my girlfriend spent every day together, she has no time to hang out with her. She wants to have my girlfriend in her life every second. Since day one, she has said horrible stuff about me. It tears my girlfriend apart when her best friend talks bad about me.

Also, last week she told her you pick him or me. Then she apologized, but I think shes a fake friend if she does that, right? Why would you make your good friend choose over somebody, thats not right.

Anyway, I dislike her best friend highly now that she talks bad about me behind my back, and she has no reason to hate me.

She cussed me out, and so I got upset and cussed her out a day later after i reasoned with her.

What should I do?

I'm really mad, and this is a horrible situation.

I have a large pond (1400 gal) and about 15-20 koi and comets. Sometimes they seem so hungry that I feel bad and give them more food, but I've heard the goldfish will eat themselves to death if you feed them too much! Are Koi and comets the same? Can I feed them 3 times a day if they seem hungry?

i have a dragon fish, or a violet goby as others say, but mine comes up every 10 mins about and takes a huge gulp of air then comes back down.I have angles in that tank as well but they arn't gasping for air at the top. But i added a bubber and he still does it. Do they breath normal air, or water? and any extra info would help.

I looked it up on the web and found every thing I wanted to know about the fish except--This fish has a long appendage that is attached to and hangs down from his mouth. Could this be its tongue? I know that sometimes the fish leaves its tongue hanging out but the tongue is not described in any of the web searches I have done. Other than that--this fish looks just the pictures I have seen. Thank you, Beverly

i got a new tank on friday and set it all up. i put in some live plants and rocks and also put some gravel in a stocking from an other tank that has been on the go for many years. i also added some food to start the cycle (sure i read the food bit somewhere) anyway i was going to buy the fish 2mo (wed) the tank size is 20, 15, 12. im only gonna geep in it tetras and gupping was thinking 10 tetras and 5 guppies, would this be ok for tank size and is it ok to add that amount 2mo and all at ones. once i have fish in ill will test water dailing and to small WC to keep nitrates down till the bacteria builds up.

I got my 1st tank from a friend with fish so i had to put them in with about 75% new water, i know this is bad and wanna do it the correct way this time.

Thanx for all your input in advance!

I currently have a 56 gallon column Perfecto aquarium with two Maxi-Jet Model 900 powerheads and an AquaClear 500 powerfilter. Yes, I'm aware that this is quite a bit of filtration. I vacuum weekly and do water changes as well, but there is quite a mulm buildup underneath the plate that has built up over the last 3 years. I know that I could take a small hose and vacuum out underneath the plate, but it is difficult due to the depth of the tank. I also admit that I am a little bit lazy as well. :) I am thinking about putting in 2 AquaClear Model 70 powerheads with reverse flow capabilities. Have any of you done this with a mature tank? Would it affect the nitrifying bacterial colonies already present? I'm worried about mulm decay eventually poisoning the tank. I wish I didn't set up the UGF, as I've had tanks do perfectly well without them, but it came with the tank, and stupid me, I set it up!!
