Does anyone know what may be doing this ?
Is he sick or something?
(And no hes not upside down for all the people who would no doubt ask this)

Does he seem to be gasping for air at the top? This can be a sign of low dissolved oxygen (no filter, airstone, or water temperature too high - they like it under 75o, and lower would be even better). It can also be caused a high amount of ammonia or nitrite in the water. If he seems to be scratching the sides of his head against objects in the tank, he may have gill parasites.

He may just want to avoid another fish, or find a place to rest out of the main current. Or if he sees you in the area, he might be expecting to be fed.

As long as he's not "tipped" head down, I wouldn't expect a swim bladder problem.

Should he develop other symptoms, check the chart below for ideas and treatments.

It is a very clear indication of lack of disolved oxygen in your water, you have to use a airstone or a filter that has a air thread capacity to create bubbles.

Move the water surface, either by means of a airstone or a filter, and your goldy should be ok.

You might not be feeding him enough or he might just want more attention. He might even just like the tempeture more at the top instead of the bottom.
