I looked it up on the web and found every thing I wanted to know about the fish except--This fish has a long appendage that is attached to and hangs down from his mouth. Could this be its tongue? I know that sometimes the fish leaves its tongue hanging out but the tongue is not described in any of the web searches I have done. Other than that--this fish looks just the pictures I have seen. Thank you, Beverly

What you're seeing on the lower jaw are barbels - see under appearance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Arowana , http://webpages.csus.edu/~sac67896/anatomy.html

A toothed bone and tongue (hence, the common name bonytongue) lies on the floor of the mouth and the teeth interlock with teeth in the roof of the mouth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arowana

not a tongue, they are kinda like feelers , they dwell near the bottom mostly , and they are beautiful for a fish
